Battlefield 2042 & other fps flight controls
« on: 04:33 AM - 11/27/21 »
I’ve run into this before, and I’m wondering if the console & PC games are setup differently…

Basically I can’t use a mouse (& navi) to fly any aircraft to save my @#$% life 😁 … I’m constantly needing to reset the mouse on the mousepad because of the way a mouse only registers when moving and I’m wondering:- Does this mean on PC that’s just what you have to do or are the games ‘setup’ differently to kind of help with this?

I know there’s the Turn assist option but it doesn’t work for me tbh.. this is one area that I think any advantage with a mouse is negated by the difficulty of not going straight into the ground like a f*%ing lawn dart 😂

Anyone had any luck with this issue or is it just a case of putting the time in to git gud ?
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I'm not bad in a tank with mouse n keyboard but I can't fly a heli to save my life so I just pick up the dual shock plugged into the xim, I just keep it close since it's on and working anyway.

Yeah using the turn assist or mapping a key to pitch and down on the right stick is the only way, there just isnt the turn speed to do it with a mouse drag alone. Almost all jet pilots on PC map key to pitch up and down too. Its just a matter of getting used to it.

Couldn't you just connect a controller to PC and pick that up for vehicles?

After digging into BF’s settings, which have the “figure it out yourself” approach I found you can switch it pretty easily to BF4 type control, which is better. I’m 99% sure the power up/down heli inputs aren’t even analogue anyway so there’s zero point having it on a stick..

Also with what gasknr1 said about mapping pitch up/down to keys I think that’d work well in jets but for the heli i find it helps me to have pitch up/down and yaw on the right stick and work in diagonals etc

I think I’ll grab a controller for pilot mode like people suggested.. the pilot control settings have a separate extra sensitivity slider in-game as well so it should work fine

These are the situations where I expect the Nexus to shine simply because it is a controller with analog sticks.

Xim has always had it's downfalls with vehicles and other similar items, it's why I have always used a separate config for turn assist, so I can set it to have different sense to normal aim.
We have these small inconveniences in order to have superior aim. :)

What did you change specifically? I think BF4 had the best vehicle controls.

I plain and simple sucked at flying with the KBM on PC. Since the native support for flight sticks aren't working...2042 is basically in alpha. I used my flight stick(Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) with the XIM.

I used the following:
XB1 BFV ST
In Game - Default Flight Controls
Left X = Joystick Right Z
Left Y = None *since the slider won't control throttle(mapped to 11&12)
Right X = Joystick Left X
Right Y = Joystick Left Y

Movement - Left Stick
Replace W with Button 11
Replace S with Button 12
Still tweaking my config and button layouts.

Anyone have any better suggestion I would love to hear them. I may try BF4 with KBM but this seem to work pretty well.
Roach
PC w/ a lot stuff

What I do, (I'm pretty good pilot)... is use Turn Assist, I know is not easy or ideal but, I had it mapped to the same button I use to sprint, when I'm on foot. This makes my brain thinking on "going faster", turning faster on this case... and if I want to do a wider turn (dogfighting) I tap repeatedly the turn assist button while swiping the mouse instead of held down all the time, I only do that for a tight turn, is not easy requires mastering but it does work.

Another things that I tried:

Nav Controller for vehicles while aiming with mouse.

Pick up controller.

In the Control Schemes menu you can go to pilot sticks & change them to legacy, which is like BF4, and also go to pilot buttons and change it to alternate. That changes the heli & jets to BF4 control
I went through the custom menu and basically did the same, but just turned off a couple things like the radio etc

I've just been picking up the controller but I never tried tapping the turn assist like you said thanks for the idea

just a remark .. there used to be a post on bf4 controls in the xim4 discussions.  Someone had the pitch up binded on 'spacebar' and that worked really great (for planes)  instead of dragging the mouse all over your desk like hell.
