Xim 4 and XBox Series S/X controller with new beta

I've read multiple times that you can use the Xim 4 with the Series S/X if you use an "old" Xbox One controller..

But the new Xim 4 beta [FIRMWARE 20211020] changelog says "Support for Xbox Series X|S controllers on both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.".

Has anyone tested this? Is it correct that the new controllers wil work with the Xim 4?

If not, what is the best Xbox One controller to get? It's difficult to find an old version on Amazon.

Just wondering because I'm about the get a Series S with Black Friday.
