Logitech G500 vs MX518
« on: 02:44 PM - 02/16/11 »
Hi Guys,

I know there has been a lot of discussion about this, but I just wanted to clarify for myself. I already have the MX518 which has a dpi 1800 I believe. My question is whether or not it would be better performance wise with the XIM3 to buy the G500 dpi 5700 which would require lower XIM sensitivity settings or just stick with the MX518 and have to turn the XIM sensitivity settings up more? To be clear which mouse would achieve better results while playing in game. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Stick with your MX518 and up your sensitivity. Search the forum for settings, as many people have a MX518.

I can't speak to the G500 because I don't own one. The MX518 is a great mouse and is silky smooth on the XIM3.

mx518 is all you need tbh
the only dissadvantage is its lack of dpi (only 1600 dpi)
its not like you need high dpi, but the configs feel a bit better with eg 5700 dpi

so stick with your mouse and next time you wanna buy a new one make sure it has a high amount of dpi

stay with current mice because of your hand muscle memory otherwise you can train your hand muscle memory with higher dpi like G500 or other mice. its easy to get used within 30 minutes or less.

I personally prefer G500 for better gaming experience.

I've actually got both... actually I have a crapload of mice, from generic ones, to an MX500, MX518, G9x, and G500.

I like the ergonomics of the G500 the best.  The placement of the thumb buttons is fantastic as compared to the 518 forme.  I thought I'd like the G9x but it's just not comfortable or with well placed buttons for me.

Use what is most comfortable for you.  Check Donski's videos, he uses the MX518 as do many others.  The MX518 is a gaming mouse with plenty of DPI for the XIM3.  More DPI may make it smoother at very high sensitivities, but I doubt you will notice it at the turning speed limitations of console games.

The main thing to remember is comfort.  When you're gaming for more than an hour or two you don't want your hand cramping up.  I tried the MX518 in the store and it felt very comfortable, but I went with the G700 mainly for all the buttons it has and the wireless capability.  It is also very ergonomic and fits my hand nicely.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I guess I will stick with the MX518 because I have been using it for a while now with PC and I have no issues with it. I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be having a lesser experience with a mouse with a lower dpi. But from what you all said it shouldn't make that big of a difference because I can just turn up the XIM3 sensitivity settings more.

Having used both in the past I prefer Mx518>G500 both for sensor and comfort.

Oh and if you buy a new mx518 anyone grab the japanese version. Its all black and looks lovely :D

This is the compatibility section, I'll move this over to general. Both mice work with xim3 by the way.

Oh and I prefer the G500. The mx518 is more comfortable for me, but the G500 wins due to the features it has.

Give me G500 or give me death! I own both, but very much prefer the 500 to the 518. I use it for both PC gaming and XIM. It is a great mouse! Highly recommended!

what settings are you guys using for MX518 for COD?
I couldn't get anything dialed in that was worth a @#$%.
seemed to go from sluggish to "Whoa-slow the hell down!" in just a couple bumps of the sens settings.
G700 was easy in comparison...

Not many folks on here post problems with setting up the MX518 but there is crap loads of people have posted regarding optimum setting for the G500/700 [could be that they are just high sensitivity plaers though!].

ofc could just be more people use the higher dpi rodents but I'll be sticking to my intellimouse or MX518 until everythings ironed out.
