USB Switch 3.0?
« on: 06:26 PM - 04/29/21 »
Hi guys!

Well, my XBoX Series X finally arrived. I'm getting an USB Switch to use my XIM Apex + T2 on both consoles.

However, in Mexico there isn't many options.

I researched, this one seems to be big favorite on the XIM Community:
IOGEAR 2x4 USB 2.0 Peripheral Sharing Switch, GUS402

$35 USD *back order*

A bit cheaper I can get a updated:
UGREEN 4 - 3.0 Switch 2x4 USB 3.0 KVM
$33 USD which is available.

Or the USB 2.0 version for $25.

I mean, I'm ok with spending extra for the right one, also waiting but I don't know if going USB 3.0 might be a requirement specially with current gen consoles and controllers, or can be incompatible with XIM.

Any other recommendation you have, please share.

Thanks in advance for your time and feedback :D

I've used both IOGear and Ugreen switches without issue for swapping between multiple consoles. The advantage of the IOGear switch is the optional USB power port on the front, just in case power becomes an issue.

The only problem likely to happen is swapping to PC. Windows 10 will likely crash the USB host after a few swaps, which requires a reboot to resolve. I've found solutions to mitigate the problem (down from 1/5 to 1/20 swaps), but have never found a fix.

Keep the authentication controller on the XIM APEX USB hub instead of the USB switch. Plug the m/kb into the switch and the switch into the XIM hub. Otherwise, the XIM may crash when swapping to or from the console.

Awesome, Thanks! antithesis I appreciate your reply.

I have one more question though, both authentication controllers can be on the XIM APEX USB hub?

Only connect one auth controller to the USB hub at a time. Or use a USB hub with individual power switches and toggle the auth controller on or off, depending on the console. Sabrent makes cheap USB hubs with power switches.

Hi antithesis, the USB IOGear(GUS402) switch arrived, tested today.

...
Keep the authentication controller on the XIM APEX USB hub instead of the USB switch. Plug the m/kb into the switch and the switch into the XIM hub. Otherwise, the XIM may crash when swapping to or from the console.
I got confused, are you saying I need two switches?  :-\?

Even though hotswap is kind of tricky, this is the setup that worked for me:

Hot-swap steps:
Press Switch button,
turn off auth controller from the current console,
turn on auth controller for the other console.
XIM starts up and everything is OK.

For Titan Two, setup at GTuner: Auto Mode, Protocol Default In/Out.

And this setup works, but hot-swapping is problematic.

When using this setup, I have to practically avoid hot-swapping, turn off the current console and then when everything is off.
turn off auth controller from the current console,
turn on auth controller for the other console.
Press Switch button to select the other console.
Power up the console selected by the switch.

In all honesty I can't see myself switching back and forth between consoles, but I would like to know, is this right or I'm missing something.

Because, in this case... (with T2 connected), I could just plug and unplug the T2 (output) from one console to another, (I used USB extensions so USB connector wear is not a problem), still needed to switch ON/OFF the auth controller.

Thanks in advance :D

That looks right. Yes, you can't hot-swap between two live consoles.
