Xbox Series X not recognizing Xbox One Controller

My XSX is not recognizing my xbox one controller. I read early on that I need to possibly switch a controller preference to wired instead of wireless.. I can't find that preference anywhere.

Can anyone help?

To clarify further, upon plugging in the controller, it does the controller buzz then nothing further.

I am also a convert from the ps4 and have never owned an xbox product. I am unsure if there is some other protocol I should be doing to power on for Xbox or if I need to factory reset.  My Xim profile is set to a xbox game profile.

Edit: To add to this, the xbox controller buzzes, but does not seem to power on/connect through the xim.  I've tested removing the batteries, and the controller is getting power. It just cant connect to the xbox when connected to the xim.  I have the latest firmware installed as well.

Welcome to the community. Does your Xbox One controller work when connected directly to your Xbox Series X?
