Have I missed something? I;m confused as to apply for an alpha invite and Battlefield veteran thing is either not working or I'm doing it wrong.

So how is this game then? I know its only a PC Alpha and not the 360 version but is it feeling good? Does it feel exactly like Bad Company 2 or now a little more like COD?

Is the first map too big? Vehicles too powerful? I want to know all as I need something to look forward to seeing as my heart sinks everytime BLOPS goes in my 360.

Also, does the game have a standard Deathmatch mode? Looking at Mist's screenshot of ownage it appears there is. Are you in a squad for that? Is the map made smaller for that mode?

Well , you can't bind any controls in the alpha , so I'm stuck using Ahk in trying to get the game to feel comfortable to me. Overall it runs smoothly on my 5970+5850 on high settings. Getting 150+fps in most areas of the map. Occasional graphic bug here and there but overall , everything looks superb.
Crossfire scailing is ok but not as good as I expected.  Drivers SHOULD improve for this game before it goes GOLD.
There's not much options you can change in the beta. High , med , low graphic detail and thats it.

As far as comparing it to Bfbc2 I'd say the hit detection is better , guns have a more realistic feel and not so much recoil as bfbc2 . Not really as quick paced as Cod but I'd say weapon movement and feel is better than in any of the cod games atm. The scale of the map vs player ratio feels well balanced and thought out. One end doesn't feel like it can be dominated over the other by just forcing players to stay in spawn areas.
In my opinion , as a veteran Bf player since Bf1942, this one is by far the best. Sound is outstanding , animation is top notch....
Subtle things like enemy scope glistening in the sun, the way your screen goes to an amber/ orange color when your near fire... is what makes this game feel more submersive than any other one before it.
-Loving it so far.

 ;D

-No standard deathmatch mode atm.

wow sounding too good to be true! Although Bad Company 2 is good I wasnt a fan of the recoil on a lot of the guns. I really hope the 30fps on the consoles doesnt ruin the feel for it.

How is the destruction? Is it just the standard chucnks that come off or a lot more dynamic and realistic?

What mode was Mist playing then? Looks like a deathmatch style screen as it is showing KDR as opposed to score.

nice to hear that glenn :)

btw i read that be alpha runs on directx 9 only thus the destruction is set to a minimum
the finished game should run on directx 11, but what about the people that only have directx 10 cards or lower?
i guess they cannot run the game the right?

anyways one of the reasons why i get a new pc is bf3 ;)

I wonder how much destruction the consoles will be able to handle?

BF3 only supports DX10/11.  The alpha is locked at lower graphics and destruction is turned off for testing purposes.  Hope this helps.

I've been visiting http://www.bf3alpha.battlefield.com every couple of hours and just got accepted a minute ago. Dice has been telling us we would get an email, I did not but the website finally worked. Downloading now. :) I'll find out soon how well it runs on my 9800 gtx plus. BF Veteran rank 6 by the way.

i7 860
4gb ddr3 1600mhz
xfx 9800gtx plus

Mist, I just got mine too!

You'll be seeing me out there as soon as I can get home and clear my schedule!

Built a pc for this.  i7-2600k, 8GB ram, 2x 560 Ti.  Hopefully I get an alpha invite, if not I'll crush my other pc games until the beta.

At minimum I'd go:
i5-2500k
4GB DDR3
gtx 560 Ti or HD 6950

I spent roughly $1000 us dollars on mine.

and that's why i have a $200-$300 console that should last me for ~5-6 years as opposed to 2-3 years and then have to upgrade again...

.. but what about the people that only have directx 10 cards or lower?
i guess they cannot run the game the right?

I tried out a Pc with a 4870x2 , qx6700 overclocked to 3.2 , 6 gig ram , Win 7 32 bit with medium settings in game and had a constant 55-75 fps.
Not sure if the final build will use the browser based game launch technique but it does feel like some of the textures are streamed from the server and are not entirely on the load of the video card. Which  btw is a good thing if your not running the latest and greatest in video card tech.  ;)
The only quirk I find with the game is that you need to download and run Origin same time your playing the game. If your running the steam version , ...well this means you will have 2 browser based apps taking up your precious online bandwidth.  ??? If you have a low end DSL , this could be problematic  for you.
