So to hold breath on consoles you have to slightly release the left trigger, is there a way to do using the xim?

Yes, in the Ghost Recon BR controller settings, change the hold breath button to L3. (Left Analogue Stick Buttom, AKA Sprint)

Yes, go to controller settings where you can re-map buttons in the game, change hold breathe button to L3. Or whatever button you want. But L3 works best, setting it to L3 is the same as holding breath in COD or Battlefield.
