Why do so many people hate the XIM?
« on: 12:55 PM - 07/16/19 »
It's just a curious observation I've made whenever I see these "fuk mouse and keyboard users" threads pop up every now and again Why are there so many people that legitimately HATE this product and the people who use it. It's an irrational kind of hatred that's used by people who've been involved with politics way to long. There's so much misinformation, and so much doublethink surrounding it. People keep saying that Microsoft and Sony have ways of detecting it (a lie that keeps being repeated ad nauseum ), but won't do anything about it because it might upset disabled gamers.

I'm curious how many of you have gotten randoms reporting you for "cheating" using XIM? Unfortunately, I won't be able to buy mine until December (gotta take care of some of those RL bills before hand). I'm just wondering how widespread this so called "problem" is, and wondering what I'm going to be getting myself into come December / January.

Maybe because MK is better than controller?

Mainly playing CoD   ▪   1600dpi   ▪   Default sync   ▪   1000hz

Arguably, there are players who are very skilled with the controller and prefer it over MK.

Facts? look at Fortnite Competitive Players on PC they didn't stop complaining about controller players having an advantage over MK.

Haters gonna hate.

Reported: who knows.. but keep in mind that same person probably reported a 100 others before actually getting it right. Banned: whole different story, and as far as I know, that number is 0.

People just look for a reason to blame their inability. Picture this, the person is standing out in the middle of the open field and they are headshotted by a sniper, whether it be a Kraber, Paladin, etc. THEY MUST USE XIM!! Reported! When in reality, the guy has no map awareness, no thought towards positioning, and no movement to counter someone who takes 15 seconds to line up a shot. Its quite silly really.

#1 reason that I have seen from people who think it is cheating is "because you still have aim assist", while AA can help, it is not going to aim for you... and if you have your configuration set up to rely on AA, you'll be stuck aiming too far left or right and be unable to hit your shots.

#2 reason that I have seen, people do not understand that using a mouse on console does not allow you to perform 180's in the blink of an eye, with a flickshot to somebody's head all before someone can react. (someone gets a lucky shot, MUST BE XIM!) You are limited to the turn speed of a controller, you cannot do anything that is not possible with a controller.

People see good players using a XIM and they do not take in to account that the person has been playing FPS for longer than some of them have been alive. XIM is a tool, the hammer does not make you good at building something, the experience does. Some tools are not as efficient though, I could use a rock to hammer in a nail, but there are better tools for the job. Do not get a CronusMax adapter. You get what you pay for.

Honestly I've seen people who play with a controller on PC who are FAR better at flicking and picking off shots and will absolutely DESTROY M&KB users. The more and more I see of salty players who are @#$% spout off some random nonsense about "cheaters", the more I seem to think that it's just a small minority of players who are mad that they're just @#$% at a game.

Yes that's true, but that's only a surface level analysis. It's not the root cause for why there's so much anger.

If you dig deeper I think there are two main reasons why people hate on it:

1) Cost, especially once you factor in unfavourable international exchange rates and shipping, the XIM is actually quite expensive. Also consider that on a PC you can get away with a cheap $15 mouse and still play really well, but on XIM anything other than a good quality gaming mouse isn't going to cut the mustard. Also since people are primarily playing in living rooms and so forth, you need to factor in the cost of lapboards, mousepads, mouse bungees...it all adds up. A lot of people can't afford this.

2) The problem of using a mouse in the living room has not been fully cracked yet. I've spent 6 years building various harnesses, stands, lapboards...and let's face it, they are never ideal. You have monstrous foam lapboards which are just utterly horrendous to look at and use. You can more practical lapboards but the mouse pads are always too small. You have Navs but they lack buttons, or Azerons that depend on a desk or some weird hacked side table thing. Every solution I've seen so far is less than ideal. Since I experience a lot of carpel tunnel problems I'm consciously aware - more so than most people - about living room ergonomics, and I can tell you half the solutions I've seen are obviously from casual gamers. They are not designed for people who do 12 hour gaming marathons for weeks at a time (yeah I've been known to go nuts at it). Some of these lapboards and other miscellaneous solutions are so bad for any gameplay session that extends beyond a few hours. The living room is where 99% of console gamers are still at. Until someone cracks this problem then this will always be a huge inhibitor for adoption.

Interesting. I personally haven't encountered anyone doing so in cs go, rainbow six siege, overwatch, pubg, blackout, bo4.

Never.

I've been accused of hacking and cheating occasionally, but only when I've had a really good game (funny that: seems like players that get beat down assume that the beater must be cheating!).

There are so many ill-informed, sore losers out there that look for any reason for them losing a game other than the fact that they're just not as good as the player that they lost to.

Yes, there are some players that play brilliantly with a XIM, but there are far more that are just as good with a controller. Yes, there are XIMmers that can 180 and hit a headshot (occasionally) but there are far more that can do so with a controller.

The Shroud wannabees out there need to take a reality check and a chill pill. It's not the hammer. It's the builder.

So git gud.  8)
