Extra buttons on the mouse (ex. Logitech G500)
« on: 03:45 PM - 12/27/10 »
Hi all.  I've been lurking this site for over a year now but decided to register today (new site looks fantastic by the way).  I'm definitely excited about the XIM3, but I have a question I haven't seen answered anywhere yet (maybe it has been but I just missed it).

Will the XIM3 have the ability to make use of those extra buttons we find on most mice today?  When using my PC for gaming, I have the thumb buttons on my G500 programmed for different things (reload, melee, and grenades usually).  Also, while I'm thinking of it, what about switching weapons via the scroll wheel?

It's not a deal breaker for me either way, but my anticipation would be even higher if all these functions can be utilized.

I've read in a few different places that Xim3 will support any HID compliant mouse out of the box. Which means it'll support your left mouse button, right mouse button, forward browse mouse button, back browse mouse button, mouse-wheel scroll forward and back, and the mouse-wheel scroll button.

Current, 8 total buttons are supported on your mouse. That'll increase to 16 soon after ship. I see now that scroll-left and scroll-right isn't working on my G500 for some reason. This will be fixed.

Yes. The fact that it doesn't support 16 mouse buttons is actually a bug. Right now it supports 8.

Just for curiosity, how is the support added?
Because I was thinking about it and I have no idea how that support could be added.

This isn't a make or break thing, but will the Razor Naga have full use of the buttons? I really think it would get the most use out of the XIM3 compared to a lot of other mice out there.

So then will all the buttons on the G700 work?
that would be pretty awesome. Though I still think the G700 is the best mouse for the XIM3 and wireless support would be ideal.

At ship, 5 buttons will be guaranteed to work at the minimum (with the possibility of 8 working). After ship the bug will be fixed and increased to 16.  If G700 buttons aren't all working, we will fix it.

Also, wireless mice are supported. Initial tested hardware list will be released as we get closer to launch

Awesome, got my g700 for Xmas and tbh really impressed with it in both wired and wireless mode. I'm no pro so literally don't notice any lag/delay. Would be ideal to get some sort of wireless solution for the left hand as well to use with xim3 (any ideas?!).
