I'm using the HyperX Cloud Alpha headset on PC and I have the HyperX Cloud II USB sound card and MixAmp Pro TR Gen 3 but was wondering which setup will give me better sound in hearing footsteps, the HyperX USB sound card or the MixAmp Pro with Potara Ultimate EQ?
At the end it comes to your hearing capacity. Some people hear better treble and midtones (where footsteps are) other people needs tweaking or amplifying those, (just like an eye prescription) to hear them better.
Both devices has little to no-amplification, so the only thing we can focus on is in how well they represent or decode sound. For hearing footsteps or any competitive scenario
Stereo is the way to go, as has been mentioned on this thread several times.
Dolby or any Surround mix adds reverb, that make sounds coming from the walls, which is great for Campaign or Solo games, but for competitive hurts because you can't hear where the sound cues actually are.
My recommendation is try both on Stereo only. Test using this
video as reference, and then in your game, setting the in-game Stereo Mix.
From the get go, I think MixAmp is superior, go ahead and try the EQ presets from Emperor Potara for your Headset on Stereo only.
