This topic got me a new hobby!

Decided I wanted to try open back as well next to my GSP 600.
Got the DT 990 pro and the K701 to try now  ;D

Your ears will loved it, might hurt your wallet; but hey! I will gladly pay for anything that make me feel something -besides of the competitive advantage-.

Hi,

First off, thanks for all the great input and advice with choosing my audio gear  :)

Not sure if this is the correct thread to ask this I will give it a go..

To improve my sound for FPS gaming on a ps4, I acquired the SBX G6, with DT990Pro 250ohm + ModmicUni.
It works fine, but I think I have something setup wrong, as I dont notice much different when comparing the sound to a cheaper USB headset connected directly to my ps4.

The G6 is connected to the ps4 via optical in, and the usb for mic chat.
The high gain is turned on.

I have tried to setup the G6 in SB Connect2, with basic Stereo and with different sbx profiles.
Right now Im playing mostly Cod, so Ive been using the FPS or COD profile.

But still, its very hard to hear the direction of the sounds.

So I was wondering if anybody have any tips regarding the G6 and Ps4 ? :)

My pleasure, fortunately other members are contributing to this thread with his own valuable experience.

That's a pretty good audio setup, you should be able to have a noticeable improvement on your audio listening vs a cheap headphone.

First, make sure you set your game audio to Stereo, and the mix that give you the widest Dynamic Range or any binaural mix. Try Studio Reference or Dynamic Home Theater.

IMO SBXG6 should be used on Direct Mode (blinking led) when pairing it with audiophile grade headphones, any mix with "surround" will add a reverb effect that will hinder sound cues position. The Scout mode might not be a good idea when using "bright" headphones like DT990Pro which high treble can pierce your ears, if is amplified by the Scout Mode equalization.

In short: in-game widest Audio Dynamic Range setup + High Gain + Direct Mode on SBXG6, give it a try, those headphones are like a hound for footsteps.

...
Currently looking at the THX AAA 789 amp from drop. Seems this would be a nice toy for music as well. Can anyone recommend a dac to pair it with? And how would this work with connecting a mic? Currently use a modmic uni.[/size}

Being a worthy $400 USD Amp you go for a $300 or above DAC at minimum to really receive the performance you are paying for, not JDS Atom or Schiit Modi, something like EL DAC II at least.

BTW is on THX AAA 789 is on sale, right now.

First, thanks for the work you do on this thread and the great help you are  providing!

I need your help again and that of the users who can also help.

Previously with your advice and my budget I decided to choose Sennheiser Gsp600 + SounBlasteX G6.
This combination was a brutal change to the astro a40 + mixamp.
But I think I need something better and for the price I invested in this combo (370usd / 340euros) as well I think I can get a better audio mix.

I need you to recommend me according to my needs:

* I am a Pubg competition player and play competitions 3/4 days per week.

With the latest earphone, I improved the game audio, but still don't hear the enemy clearly and safely, I continue without distinguishing the distance or position of the enemy. When there is little ambient noise, it is easy to identify the footsteps, but when there are multiple enemies moving, teammates moving and speaking, shots or explosions, it is impossible to hear the footsteps of the enemy between shots.

In summary, I don't want to be heavy and complain, but I need a significant improvement in sound, where I can distinguish and position enemy steps in the distance and clearly to be able to react in time and be able to win the fight !!

How do you say ... I need to have a radar in my ears

* I play in a noisy environment, where the TV is in the living room, my 4 year old son screams and plays etc
As for DAC / AMP like Arc Mk2, I have searched for everything you have recommended in the thread, (all from USA) But since I live in the EU I cannot buy at a good price and it takes me a long time to get here . would need another alternative with similar characteristics in Europe

Sorry for writing a lot, but I need a radar in my ears and FOV 104.

thank you very much

I forgot to add that I prefer the closed headphones due to the problem of a lot of ambient noise, but I would like something similar or better than the DT990 Pro. No matter it does not incorporate MIC, I would buy separately

Hi, PUBG on PS4 is not as clean and precise like on PC due compression, many of the issues you are dealing with are related to this.

There is a PUBG equalizer setting on SBXG6 for PUBG tries to make up for these issues.

As I mentioned before SBXG6 is a pretty darn good amp (bi-amp) better even than X7, but its DAC tends to reduce the Soundstage (you hear sounds closer or louder that really are) compare to the Arc MK2, Schiit Modi + Magni, EL DAC + EL AMP where the soundstage is as WIDE as your headphones allows it, AKG K702 or K712 Pro will be insane.
We are talking on getting a $300 DAC/Amp or above and $400 or above headphones, trying to get above 30% better sound delivery, I don't know if it is worth it, I can't guarantee because at the end your hearing still plays a role.

Now, you are asking for soundstage and precise sound cues location; that's why open-backs are more recommended, because due its open design, sound representation is more natural, sounds feels around you no inside of your head (that's a closed back limitation), however you live in a noisy enviroment, is really really hard to find closed-back headphones with wide soundstage (its alchemy) drivers had to be specially tuned for it, GSP600 are one of the best on this regard, but there is another gaming headphone above with incredible soundstage for a closed back, those are the Beyerdynamic MMX300 Gen 2.

My recommendation is, keep your SBXG6 and try the BeyerDynamic MMX300, then in the long run... update your DAC amp, combo.

Hello Alan
I know that the pubg sound on the console is bad compared to the PC, but you have to deal with it.

I know it is difficult to find audio alchemy for my needs, so I need the opinion of a great audio professional like you.

I have thought about acquiring Fiio K5 Pro as an alternative to the amplifier / Dac that you recommend (Arc mk2, Shiit ...)

I don't think it's worth spending $ 700 on a pubg sound combo on ps4

I am open to buy other options of open or semi-closed headphones if I get a better sound quality sacrificing the ambient sound, in the hours of competition that I play I try not to be bothered by anyone ...

I should also mention that I need a MIC to minimize keyboard sounds and background noise as much as possible.

I take into account the recommendation of the MMX 300 gen 2. I fully trust you and for the moment I am going to ask for these parqs to try while I wait for another recommendation from you.

thank you very much Alan
You're the best

Hi,
I want you to help me decide between El Dac 2 and Atom amp or Sound Blasterx g6 paired with DT990? Which one is the better set up for gaming on PS4? From positional sound to wide sound stage to absolute clarity?
Thank you.

dt990 didn't really work for me. Liked K701 better. Must be my ears since the dt990 seems really popular for a lot of people.

Furthermore I found a used pair of HD700s and I really like these, imaging is fantastic. But then it got out of hand and found a pair of HD800 for a good price so couldn't resist  ;) At that point I went ahead with the THX 789, and ordered the Topping D70 on drop to go along with it  :D

Can't wait for the new toys to arrive.

Mayflower ARC MK2 does for your gaming audio what XIM does for your controller experience.

That's my go-to /best-bang-perbuck DAC/Amp recommendation, specially for PS4 where there is not compatibility issues like on XB1.

It will work for next-gen consoles, due the optical SPDIF input, on PC, Mac and Linux is 100% compatible - no drivers required.

Soundblaster offering is lower sound delivery compare with stacks or dedicated audiophile DAC/Amps, and very dependent of drivers and platforms. SBXG6 is a great entry-level, X7 has a ton of features worthy for streamers, but when you are looking for sound quality stacks or dedicated audiophile studio DAC/Amps is the way to go.

El DAC II + Atom, it is great, but we are talking on a $400 usd investment, which delivery is very close to $270 MK2 and this one includes a very good MIC interface.

Now, let's say you can afford it, why not? but EL DAC II will be better to pair it with a more compelling amp like EL AMP II. That combo will be more worthy for gaming, movies and music listening.  :)

Atom or Liquid Spark, are the best budget solution when you want to step up from regular controller audio. Is great that we now have very decent headphones amps for $100 bucks, years ago that was impossible, thanks to O2 Amp things changed.

DT990 Pros are very "bright" for my taste, and it's natural "crystallize" it is very VERY useful for hearing footsteps, I can play with them just for and our, the ADG1X are more comfortable, for my earing and head/ears. HD660S imaging and soundstage is the best for me, those are amazing.

Excellent audio gear you got, congrats! :D enjoy it and please share your experience with the community.

So I've had this mix amp for 3+ years and I honestly don't know if Dolby is on or not. Can someone tell me which is on and which is off?

Thank you for creating this post to share helpful information.

I'm using the HyperX Cloud Alpha headset on PC and I have the HyperX Cloud II USB sound card and MixAmp Pro TR Gen 3 but was wondering which setup will give me better sound in hearing footsteps, the HyperX USB sound card or the MixAmp Pro with Potara Ultimate EQ?

Hi

I am a headphone user of A50 from China. Thank you very much for sharing the adjustment method of headphone equalizer of COD16. Look forward to your updates later. There are a lot of Chinese friends using the headphone equalizer you set up.

Best regards

I received my astro A40 Gen 4s today, looked online and grabbed some good equalisers (apparently) for footsteps etc.

The prob I am having is no matter what, the game sounds tinny as hell. I only hear the odd footstep, guns are mega loud, yet I can't hear the box hums at all.

Before I was using Sennheiser game zeros just plugged into the one x controller and had no issues, it sounded ok for all, not great but no where near as bad as these Astros.

Does anyone have any good sound recommendations, both in warzone and for astro equaliser.

Cheers.

Cancel this, read the entire thread and have decided I'll return them and go for SBXG6 and GSP 600 for Xbox one X, this sounds good I take it? Also I can't seem to find any guide on how I'd set it up for the mic to work also, does it just plug into the g6 and that's it, or do I need a splitter to controller?

Cheers guys
