I have the astro a40 RT mixamp

If i get the Sennheiser GSP 600 will it work well with the amp?

Worth it over the standard astro a40 headset do u think?

Cheers
YES is a huge leap over the A40s, GSP 600 are 28 Ω so works properly for the MixAmp.

I have a HD600 used for listen music and movies only. Keep in mind those requires an true amplifier because, like any high-end headphones, are high impedance. Worth mention/clarify: MixAmp is not an amplifier only a very darn good mixer/equalizer, in order to use studio or high-end headphones an amplifier is required (above $200 for a quality one)

I tried my HD600 with an Mayflower arc amp on my PS4 Pro. I have to admit, yes it sounds very rich, natural and beautiful but... there is no an efficient soundstage optimized for gaming. I mean there's no an adequate sound positional precision.

e.g. I can hear footsteps, the best clear footsteps ever... but I couldn't distinguish/locate where they are at or come from?!: above, behind or next to me.

Contrary to the A40 + TR MixAmp where I can hear clearly footsteps with very decent sound quality (above average).

Now, with the GSP 600 + MixAmp I have a very precise soundstage for gaming, allows me to locate it sources, with a very similar sound quality of a high end headsets plus a broadcast quality mic, and no amplifier required.

One of my test runs: Battlefront (game that I know very well) I play vs AI bots (Skirmish) eyes closed... and I can hear where the enemies came from (in that game, besides shooting, of foosteps, they scream before engage), like: OK this guy is top left a bit far away.... open my eyes and there it is!. What blow my mind was on a hangar, with corridor tunnels. I was in the hangar and hear an echo coming from the corridor, I went over there and hear more noise, two bots were stuck there. DICE they are genius on sound.

Anyways.

The prodigy, don't forget to get an amp first, if you go for a HD600 (300 Ω)

Granted, I sound like a sound enthusiast, and I kind of turn into one but is not like that... I lost right ear hearing due a medicament, so I'm impared dealing with this stuff; that's why I quite exigent with sound quality to compensate not luxury, on simpler words: I need to "hear more" without increasing the volume too much, and that performance you only get from top sound devices.

No problem, BTW I think The P3wnedtrator (redacted) uses this combo too.

Yep it is an investment, got mines on sale. My A40 started to failing (after 3 years can't complain) so it was a necessary change. However I think it is a good investment because you can be use it on PC, mobile, consoles even the next gen for sure, we can't say the same on monitors or other peripherals.

I ordered the soundblaster G6 its a DAC/amp that can power up to 600ohm so it should be fine.  It has even better specs than the X7.  I'm still considering the schiit vali 2 aswell if i dont like it.

This is the headset i was considering btw it's the HD6XX a special edition made by sennheiser for massdrop only.

https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx-eu

or this one https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-headphones

It's a really affordable pair which by a head-fi reviewer sounded almost like a HD 660.

Not sure any of them would be an upgrade for gaming though instead of a GSP 600 or a HD 598 which are rated really high for sound stage, and thats all you want for competitive gaming in the end.

Is there an amp that will work with the GSP 600 and give great footsteps sound?

Loving the a40tr mix amp and gsp combo but its just a little too quiet for me.

I ask to him, it seems he requires a frequency chart to tune it up, one fourum member said he is going to provide one. In the mean while he recommend me to use the Audio Technicas AD700X Gamer God preset those headpones has closer frequency specs to the GSP 600, I tried love them, Best that any I test on the A40s

Soundblaster G6 or X7 I'd say both will easily power it.   Benefit of the X7 is that you can download the app on phone and adjust your settings on there.

How are you guys getting around the mic issue? I borrowed my brothers mix amp and have tried it with his a40s and my hd598se with mod mic and both setups the mic cuts out.

X7 is overkill, not only you don't need it an amp for that caliber with a low impedance headphones like GSP 600, it won't improve the sound stage; you need a studio audiophile grade to take advantage of that amp.

What d1sable, the Soundblaster G6 will give you extra power and a lot of options and flexibility to equalize, and the scout mode is a "footsteps" preset. But that is marketing, the footsteps preset is a coin toss work in some games, sucks in others depends on the game.

I had G6, but I prefer the MixAmp simplicity and efficiency, the mixer is great for chat party and the side tone (hear your voice) has no delay or lag like G6. The OmniVox with A40 was similar to SB scout mode, yeah... footsteps pop all of them... even teammates.

I haven't try it the GSX 1000 (Sennheiser Amp) it looks like a nice equalizer, and weak amp; but pretty cool. Seems that MixAmp software allows more flexibility to customize your eq.

Anyways, also keep in mind if you are really sound whoring for foot steps, you should go stereo and no virtual-surround with a preset optimize for foot steps.

What worked for me was: Streaming  or Night setting, with 0% Side Tone (PS4)

No the GSX 1000 is made for PC since it does it's virtual surround sound through USB and PS4 does that through optical only.

You could also get an extra amplifier and pair that with your mixamp.  Connect your Optical from PS4 to Astro Mixamp to Schiit magni to GSP 600.
That should really boost your sound levels.  I'm surprised you need it though the GSP 600 is only 30ohms which is about the same as the Astro A40's.. I'd definitely double check your ps4 and ingame sound settings first.
