Advice on getting 120hz on Xbox
« on: 03:17 PM - 03/30/19 »
My monitor has HDMI 1.4 (2.0 is needed for 120hz on Xbox). It supports up to 144hz, though. I read that you can still get 120hz with an hdmi to dvi adapter.

I got an adapter that supports hdmi 2.0 but If I select DVI output in the Xbox setting I don't get an option for 120hz. However, if I select HDMI I still get the same image but also an option of 120 hz. However, when I choose 120hz the colors get messed up.

What, I'm wondering is if it's possible the cables that come with X1X aren't true HDMI 2.0. If I should get a different 2.0 HDMI cable or if I should get this cable that someone confirmed supports 120hz through DVI: http://tinyurl.com/yxwpdf7l

You cannot use a hdmi to dvi and vice versa. You must use the hdmi port on your monitor and the monitor must support 144hz over hdmi. You must also select hdmi in your Xbox video settings not auto then change the hz in the Xbox settings, and if you have a 4K monitor it wonít work either but I doubt you have a 4K 144hz monitor. Also check your color space settings in the Xbox after changing your settings they usually reset you may have to set it back to pc rgb or whatever itís called

How did you get that to work on your Xbox? Did you use a passive or active hdmi to dvi wire, and do you mind sending a link for it

I used this one but it started losing signal after only 3 hours of use so I'll have to send it back.

I'll try this one now instead.

The odd thing is that running through DVI I get less input lag and better colors even without 120hz mode so I'm completely sold on using DVI instead of hdmi 1.4 but what doesn't make sense is that DVI has less bandwidth.
