Golf Simulator with Tiger Woods 09 and XIM2
« on: 08:22 PM - 06/25/08 »
I am looking forward to Tiger Woods 09 in August and want to use real golf clubs instead of a xbox 360 controller.  This device (http://www.electricspin.com/) is compatible with PC and PS3 and uses a USB connection.  If one were able to modulate and adjust the input correctly I would like to know if this could work with the XIM2 and XBOX 360. What things should I ask or research to understand if this is possible?

If A wiimote can be used, then I say there's a great chance this would work too.

I am pretty sure that XIM2 is compatible with any direct input device, so if it works with the PC and uses direct input, then yes I believe it can work with XIM2.

In order for it to be compatible with the existing XIM2 tool, it needs to enumerate as a DirectInput joystick, or, a standard mouse or keyboard.

If not, there is always the API I exposed so that you can talk to the XIM hardware directly (which is what MidiHero and XAE uses). Given that, really any input device can be used - but, it may take some programming skills.

(In fact, I was playing Halo 3 last night using a Wiimote on my XIM2 :)

Actually, I'm currently implementing a bounding-box scheme to see how that feels with the fixed point reticule that have to work with. I'm not sure if holding-A may still be valuable or not. But, I'll know more tonight when I can try out my latest batch of changes.

Of course, the problem is turning fast. That's why a bounding-box scheme seems to be the right compromise. I'd have to add a BoundingBox knob to the Wiimote profile so that people can change it.

Already, the Wiimote+XIM2 setup feels way better than it did with XIM1. So, I'm pretty excited about it. :)

I think the proposed M$ Newton device is going through the same phase in Bill Gates' labs as well  :D
