PS4 Xim4 Polling Rates
« on: 10:58 PM - 02/28/18 »
I was wondering what the best polling rate to us on the ps4 is. I heard that using 1000 doesn't do much since the ps4 can only handle 125? --Or something along those lines. Is it still acceptable to use 1000? Or will i feel a negative difference in my experience overall? If anyone has more insight to this topic please enlighten me. Thanks.

Edit: I use a Gpro 403 as my mouse and a ps3 nav stick--not that the gamepad of choice makes a difference in polling rates. LOL

After further research, the PS4 is 125 and xbox is 250. Still want to if using 1000 will limit me in anyway.

PS4 is 250Hz, XB1 is 125Hz.
Apex is 125, 250, 500 and 1000Hz.

To my knowledge, I'm the only one using 250Hz on the Apex. Maybe piiwii is too. Reason being is the Titan Two desyncs with the Xim Apex when it's running at 500 or 1000Hz, causing input lag.

Setting the Apex to 250Hz resolves that problem and also nicely dovetails with the PS4's native polling rate.

If I had used the Apex at 1000Hz from the get-go, that's what I'd be flogging. But I'm happy with 250Hz and in my setup, there's no benefit to upping the Apex polling rate until the T2 gets a fix.

As mentioned previously, the Apex's 1ms input lag to the console is less of a feature than the mouse running at full 1000Hz polling to the Apex. You'll definitely notice the difference in the smoothness of the mouse tracking on an Apex compared to Xim4.

As for the polling rate, if the Apex is running at 1000Hz, so too will the console's USB polling. It's apparently set at the OS level rather than the game and both PS4 and XB1 can take advantage of 1ms polling, despite not running their own wireless controllers at that rate.

Thanks for the reply, Now my only question remaining-- with a standard xim4, using 250 is better than 1000? since the ps4 cant read anything above 250 im assuming its going to cause input lag?

Edit: to clarify im talking about the mouse polling rate that is set via the mouse GUI program on the computer.

Xim4 can only poll at 125Hz. That's more a factor of the Xim4's ancestry as an Xbox device than any intentional decision not to poll at the PS4's native 250Hz rate.

If you're referring to the polling rate of the mouse connected to the Xim4, then there's not really a significant benefit to running a mouse at higher than 125Hz. But there's also no problem running a mouse at 250, 500 or 1000Hz with a Xim4, the additional polling just gets filtered out.

You'll find that most of us run mice connected to Xim4 at 1000Hz. If jitter is experienced, those affected can improve the experience by dropping it to 500Hz. I can't think of anyone running a mouse at either 125 or 250Hz.

LMFAOOO I BEEN PLAYING FORTNITE AND WW2 ON 125hz THIS WHOLE TIME. I suppose I got the polling rates of the APEX-- that Im assuming you can set your self now--with the mouse polling rates. Lots of info to digest, got confused. I been trying to learn everything there is to know about this device since i got it a few months back. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated.

If it works, it works :)

Try the mouse at 1000Hz and 500Hz to see if it improves your experience. It may make no difference, or could introduce jitter due to higher polling.

Whatever the case, Xim4 is going to poll at 125Hz and 125Hz on the mouse isn't a bad thing, it just shouldn't hurt to go higher.
