However, do I need to download new firmware when the Apex get delivered ?

I wouldn't think so. It will be sent with the Launch Build already installed.

New firmware is constantly under development, however Apex will come pre-installed with the launch firmware. It's very robust and has been tested and refined now for close to a year.
