newb to xim looking for what to expect.
« on: 02:18 AM - 02/26/18 »
so i decided to try mouse and keyboard on my xbox one and had almost settled on the venom x4 (mostly due to the pricing) until i stumbled onto the apex link on a xim4 thread somewhere on this site. immediately stopped moving in the direction of the venom and budgeted the 50ish bucks ill be saving towards a decent gamepad and mouse combo. i keep reading about curves and im not sure of all the lingo but any advice for someone who's never gotten fancier than an elite controller would be greatly appreciated. this is my 31st bday present to myself (march 20th and im hoping its out by then and i manage to get an order in) so im really hoping it can help my play on pubg and bf1. thanks in advance for any and all advice, information, etc.
My Set Up:
XIM APEX
Logitech G502 Mouse
Razer Orbweaver Gamepad
Xbox One Elite Controller
32" Emerson LCD TV
Vuzix iWear Video Headphones

Don't let curves confuse you. I have used XIM for years now and I only used curves once back when Halo 5's aim mechanic was still a broken mess (it still is, but it's way better than it used to be).

Start vanilla, no curves, then use curves once you either A) need to, and / or B) want to experiment. Don't let it confuse / daunt you. XIM is a great plug and play device for the most part. It can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. There's no reason anyone should be worrying about curves day 0.

No, even when you open it up and start clicking around it's unlikely to be super clear to you. As I said I've used this product for a long while and even I don't bother with them, and I don't think I'm in the minority.

That's why as a new user, I recommend you just plug, play, and enjoy!

That keyboard should be fine but I can't say for sure. As for the mouse...not sure. There's a compatibility list, have you looked it up?

I wouldn't even know where to find a compatibility list. I've literally known about xim 4 for like 2 days and only found out about the Apex or this site since last night. Lol I'm as new as someone can get

Everything you need is on the forum here, important information is usually stickied at the top of each section.

I agree with the advice above about staying away from advanced settings. These aren't needed for most instances and can hurt just as much as they help if not more when used incorrectly. I highly recommend just using the vanilla config for a long while then reading into what advanced features do before tinkering with them. You will develop a good baseline or expectation on how things should feel by avoiding these at the start.

A few bits of information that will help as a new user..

- All games expect the max in-game sensitivity but some games have additional in-game options that support expects for best performance. These settings will always be in game support on the game settings page. Here is a direct link.

- Known hardware support is lon the forum listed in hardware compatibility. Here is a direct link.

- I recommend checking out the instructional videos. As a new user it can be helpful to familiarize yourself with the UI, setup, and use.

ok so im reading through the hardware list of whats confirmed working and not and i didnt find either of my choices on that list. i havent gamed on pc in years and never got into gaming peripheals so im feeling pretty overwhelmed. could anybody throw me a few suggestions on some more budget friendly mouse keyboard combos? id really like a mini pad for the keyboard as most of my gaming is done laying in bed. sorry if i sound like a needy pleb im just really trying to make sure i dont waste any money and get the best gaming experience possible. as far as a mouse id really prefer to have at least 4 buttons on the left side to emulate the abxy on the xbox controller. thanks again for dealing with my ignorance lol

-EDIT-

I wanna thank everyone for their help. i ran down that compatibility list one by one and think i finally settled on the combo i plan to use. everyone in the forums seems to be super quick to respond and i cant wait to get my xim. this community seems really helpful. hope to see some of yall in the battlefields. thanks again.

If you want some safe hardware options, stick with Logitech.

The G203 mouse is excellent and cheaply priced. Likewise, the G Pro keyboard is great and you won't suffer from power issues that you may experience with Razer and Corsair kbs.

In general, if you want to stay trouble-free, just steer clear of Razer.
