Welcome to the community. Yes, you can do this, but, you won't be able to bind buttons on your controller as you can with your mouse. Have you considered using a Sony Move Navigation controller in your left hand?

I'm not concerned about programing the controller as the only game i play is Overwatch and you can program it in game.. Im missing most of my left pinky and ring finger so this will be a great option.

Fair enough. In this case yes it will work pretty well for you.

I currently do this too (but I connect it to a Titan device so I can reprogram the buttons and use a Wii U Pro pad).

The one thing you have to realise is that because the controllers are quite heavy (XB1 specifically), you won't find it comfortable to use for long stretches if you're just gripping it with one hand. What I do is I rest the controller on my thigh, and kind of dangle my fingers to the sides. I've been testing this setup for about 6 weeks now and it's awesome!

Note that this approach only works for controllers where the triggers aren't touching the ground. Otherwise it will keep scraping against your leg. Thats why the XB1 and Wii U Pro pad are great because there's a bit of plastic covering the bottom of the trigger.
Setup: XIM Apex, Titan Two, K780 keyboard, G Pro Wireless mouse, Logitech G440 mousepad, LucidSound LS30 headphones, Netduma router, Ubiquiti UniFi AP LR wireless access point
