New Overwatch ST following new controller aim mode patch?  (Read 21485 times)

According to today's patch notes for Overwatch, the devs there have released a new aiming mode for controllers:
Quote
Controller users can now choose between two aiming modes
Dual-Zone mode (New default): The vast majority of the thumbstick's range moves with reduced sensitivity and relatively high acceleration. However, when the thumbstick crosses to the outer 10% of its range, it will move with high sensitivity and relatively low acceleration. This mode will allow for more precise aiming, while still allowing players to turn around quickly
Exponential Ramp mode (Old default): As the thumbstick moves toward the outside of its range, the sensitivity is ramped up exponentially. The acceleration remains relatively high throughout

My question is, will the XIM devs be releasing a new Overwatch ST to function with the new aiming mode? Or will we still get the best control using the old aiming mode?

I'll let mist chime in as well, but, the new default sounds terrible (i.e. low sensitivity and then it jumps to high speed). I'm not sure why some console game developers think they need to add that much of a crutch when in the end it'll feel awful due to it's unpredictability. Let alone change the default on people (which I've been reading?)!

Any serious velocity jump is bad -- for everyone (controller or mouse). They followed Halo 5's model but ignored all the backlash from that community which resulted in them adding settings to revert it. Yet Treyarch, IW, and DICE figured out how to craft a controller aiming system that's consistent, predictable, and functional for all console gamers. It seems that Blizzard isn't that level of developer nor understands the console platform.

It seems that Blizzard isn't that level of developer nor understands the console platform.

Indeed it seems like once again they hit some drugs and did their own thing instead of just providing us the best and proven acceleration method from another Activision game.

I tried it just now and it's f* horrible. It's not precise keeps overshooting targets, velocity jump is too easy to trigger, and the ADS mode for snipers now works differently, old % values no longer provide the same ratio to the hip sensitivity.

I hope training the ST can make it feel better. But I have no clue how that would even work, two different ST's for a single game?

After playing quite a few games on PS4 with the recent patch , I must say it feels like something has dramatically changed in the overall feeling of the XIM4. I used the old default but had to start from scratch. Diagonal movement seems to be way off, much slower than it was before. I used trusted Henry's curve and Humanfemale settings, both felt off in some way. I'm curious how others feel.

Aiming feels incredibly weird for me right now. My sensitivity is acting strange as well. I reverted to the old aiming mode and turning is a chore. I occasionally get like...20degree turn radius. Not using any special curves or anything. Just have sens to 30 and boost to 1250. But I can't track anything. Is anyone else's sensitivity off? Diagonal aiming slows down an incredible amount. Wow.

Mine is unplayable, best way to describe it is that it feels like its under water or something

What do you mean by reverting to old aiming mode? is that a setting in the game?

Completely unplayable for the time being, I only use the XIM 4 on Overwatch and am in need of a solution.

EDIT:

I believe they have "patched" use of the XIM 4 on Overwatch. No matter what settings you possibly have you cannot get the sens that you've had before.

Your up and down, left and right work fine. But if you try to move diagonally it will not work and that is when delays/sens reduction kicks in. It is unplayable with the XIM 4.

Try aiming diagonally. My cursor hardly moves at all. It feels like I'm moving the mouse through peanut butter, if that makes sense....

I am having the same issue even when I changed the mode to Exponential Ramp

Xim cannot be patched without completely altering the feel of normal joystick input entry which would require everyone to relearn the aim mechanics. I haven't logged on yet, but try the other joystick option and see how it works.

Said this in the other thread to summarize the situation and hopefully put rest to some panic.

Might just be me, but I feel like princess and the @#$% pea when it comes to my XIM settings. Sometimes I just am paranoid it's not right. I can see where a game changing event like this could cause some people to second-guess

It's a shame that they made things worse while attempting to improve the player experience. Does anyone know if controller users are having issues with either setting too?

I can start working on this tomorrow once gears support is finished.

diagonal movement does seem a bit off, however its not too bad using the exponential ramp setting.

I think I'll be fine till the next XIM patch.

HOPEFULLY it will be even better with the daul zone settings, playing on controller with it felt a lot tighter... still someone weird but maybe a step in the right direction at least.
