What do you mean? All that is required is that you add a config using Manager then set your buttons and sensitivity. What did you have trouble with?

The nature of the device makes this impossible. It already is extremely simple.

Pick a game

Pick what your buttons do

Choose a sensitivity.

It literally takes 1 minute for me to create a new profile, bind all my buttons, etc.

I think what he means is:

Add more memory.

Load it up with every ST.

Maybe detect which system you're connected to and filter out all the other console ST's.

Load pre-mapped keys and and have very specific keyboard / mouse recommendations.

I suppose all of this might be nice for more casual users.

I don't think that's fair. The XIM is one of the best gaming devices that I have ever purchased but I will be the first to admit that it's a niche thing. To reach a broader audience it needs to be more than it is. If it was preloaded with all the ST's, downloaded new ST's automatically, and had preconfigured keyboard bindings based on the PC versions, that would be incredibly appealing for the less technically inclined.

You set one config and say use this and only this. Want anything else, tough...just like regular game devs do. 99% of PC games have the same config anyway (space jump, right click ADS etc) so it's not like it would be that far off.

Most PC setups i have to change anyway. Hence options/customization. That's the appeal to the broader audience.

I will add that one major thing I have to change on the xim when making profiles is the ps guide button. By default it is the esc key. Well on PC that goes to your in game menu/cancel buttons. So I put PS guide to enter key. Esc goes to options/start.

The reason I change pc game buttons is: since consoles are limited and often have the same buttons for a couple of actions, I try to mimic pc to console. It's only been 100% successful on bf4 and cod.

I don't know for sure, but I think if you were to load all the configs up for all games, the memory would have to be large/r. This could increase the size of the unit itself, and possibly increase the cost as well.

I guess I'm used to taking the time to make sure my bindings are what I feel is comfortable. Especially when I reformat my hdd, or reinstall a game, or built a new pc.

also, I'm not criticizing or trying to start anything. I find it odd for a request for something that all you have to do is spend maybe 5-10 mins setting the sensitivity and buttons (which most button assignment is adequate).

I wish consoles games would let you bind every action to whichever key is comfy to the player. FO4 came close, but then added 2 actions to some of the buttons which is dumb.

Having pre-sets doesn't stop anyone from doing this...

Anyway I still think it's a good idea. Am I saying it would be feasible right now? No, because of the increased memory / cost, and the need for wifi so it can self-update.

But for this product to go from niche to mass-market, it needs something like this. Something you can sell at Gamespot packaged with a cheap mouse and keyboard with pre-set PC-style configs, true plug and play.

Yes it is seemingly ridiculous that some people may not want to bother with the advanced stuff (which is 90% of the reason most of us love it), but there are people out there like that. Lots of them. His idea has a lot of merit IMO. You wouldn't believe the number of people that buy iPads and other devices and never, ever, ever, ever go into the settings and personalize it to their needs. I'm the opposite - half the fun I get out of gadgets is exploring the hell out of it. But not everyone needs that. Gotta put your marketing cap on.
