There's no doubt it will work. The way XIM works is it uses a controller as the interface and it's never speaking directly with the console, otherwise it could be detected. This means that if the new console uses the same controller (which it does) then you have nothing to worry about. Even controllers with proprietary interfaces still works because again, it doesn't need to connect to the console and it doesn't even need to care how the controller itself connects to the console. It's a genius design.

Is it worth waiting for a new model? Well you need to understand that it's a small company. The last firmware took 18 months just to come out. I don't think they have the resources to be pumping out new product lines all the time so you should be good. OBsIV did talk about how the new firmware had some hooks for some new partnerships - whether that involves new hardware is hard to say but as I said even if it does I imagine it might be a while off.

Given just how @#$% good this is, I don't think you need to worry. If I knew a new model was due out in 6 months I'd still buy it just to use in that period. That's how good it is.

Also you need to ask yourself what could a new model even bring? The only thing I could think of is one that is powered so that you could dasiy chain it like mad without fear it running out of power (not that this is a huge problem anyway, I've got 2 switches, and a Titan One all hooked up to mine and it all works fine).

Finally from a marketing perspective you probably won't be able to get him to confirm whether a new one is coming soon anyway. He'd be shooting himself in the foot:) If it was a few months away yeah maybe you'd have a reason to get upset if it was quickly superseded but if it's 6-12-18 months away he'd need to keep it secret for obvious reasons.

Thanks OBsIV and thats good to know!

Should I wait for the new Xim to come out or will it still be awhile after the new Xbox One S comes out?

there have been no news or indications that there will be a new xim anytime soon so far, you should be fine with the current xim ;)

I'm quite pessimistic when it comes to this stuff so let's just say that if it blew my expectations then brace yourself. Once you get over the awesomeness of using a mouse, you're not even done yet. Being able to customize to such a level is stunning. Even PC games don't offer this (eg in rainbow six siege on PC you can't remap stuff to the mouse wheel I heard) - with the XIM you can map ANYTHING. It's so good.

I've owned 5 or 6 competing m/kb on console products and none of them come anywhere close to a Xim. But keep in mind, this is console gaming, not PC and m/kb on console isn't quite the same experience.

Console games are tuned to gamepad controllers and have things like aim-assist, slow turn-speed, velocity jumps and acceleration. The Xim does a bang-up job to translate those instructions to m/kb, but it rarely feels exactly like a PC.  Games like Battlefield and Call of Duty do get very close, but others like Overwatch and Destiny can feel slightly off. They're still very playable on a Xim, but they have a different feel to PC games.

Other games like Halo 5, Rainbow Six Siege and The Division can feel downright poor, but more often than not, those complaints are reflected in the broader console community and patches tend to come down the pipe to improve the controls for everyone.

Where the Xim differentiates itself from the generic "one size fits all" competition is by building smart translators for HIP and ADS for each game individually to offer the best possible m/kb translation. If things feel poor, it's the game rather than the Xim to blame. When that happens, there are advanced tools on the Xim like Boost, Turn Assist, Ballistics Curves, X/Y ratio etc to further tweak the controls and OBsIV is always actively working on firmware improvements in consultation with the community.

In short - if you like console shooters and prefer m/kb, buy a Xim, no questions asked. But if you come in expecting it to be a perfect replication of PC m/kb, you've set your expectations at the wrong level and are better off putting up with the cheats and hackers that are all too prevalent on the "master race".

Other games like Halo 5, Rainbow Six Siege

FYI these two games have made leaps and bounds since release. A combination of the devs fixing some things (in the case of Halo 5, there were literally about half a dozen fixes made...jesus), as well as improved ST's. Both are vastly better than where they started off.

I just want to add that Rainbow Six is one of the best experience on the XIM4 since the latest patch and ST update, it's up there with COD and BF games.

I realize I'm a little late to the discussion, but if you're PC gamer who got tired of trying to keep up with the hardware race, this Xim4 is a godsend.  Console controllers are nice if you've been raised on them, but there is no substitute for a m/kb combo if that's all you've ever used.  That said, there are some seriously good console gamers out there and when using the Xim4 on games like Destiny, the competition is ridiculous.  Can you guys just skip the next hardware version and start researching implantable interfaces?!!  I'll volunteer to be the first test subject!   :o
