by connecting the xim with only the factory cable, I can get the Bluetooth to connect. success!  however, it seems strange that just one ext cable would affect it.  it has only just started to do this...so if I need to connect, i'll have to go direct.

just a side note, I reconnected the ext cable to the factory cable, and now everything is working again, Bluetooth and all.  thank you.

It may have been a loose connection. In any case, if you continue to have bluetooth issues I recommend removing the extension. I'm glad it's working again. :)

It's not surprising that an extension cable could affect the performance of your XIM4 (especially the Bluetooth adapter) which is why we have extension cables as not supported on our hardware compatibility list. The issue is that many extension cables cause a significant voltage drop across them.
