They're also in development for a new type of VR with faster rendering or something idk. I'm not getting into VR unless it becomes better for fps games.

I'm assuming the 1080 will only be slightly stronger, around  10-15% of the 980Ti while the 1080 ti variant could be 25-50% stronger.   I'm all for better gpu but have little faith in Nvidia not milking it unless AMD decides bring something to the table.

Do they usually say 50% increase? I dont usually keep up with everything except to check out the new flagships, but I'm interested in this to see how it does in 4K.

Thats not for consumer, thats for industrial. Obvioulsy the consumer versions will be watered down. Still looking forward to an upgrade. June seems to be the majority of the rumors.

What are you running currently Amak?

Anyone with a 7xx-960 this would be a great upgrade whichever card comes up next for sure though.

At this point, I would say definitely hold on.  What's your current card and type of games, resolution/hz do you play with?

I bought my 980 ti back in August 2015 so definitely enjoying the heck out of it.   Don't see myself upgrading until 1080ti at the earliest and the more than likely the TI variant in 2017-18

Currently on a 7970 Ghz edition.

Currently playing 1080p 120hz..

But the GPU upgrade is for VR and Hopefully a 2k + 144hz monitor further down the line. Hopefully before the year is out.

Definitely a good time to wait if the 1080 comes out in June.  By then you'd have the option to purchase cheaper 980 TI's, maybe even have VR in stock lol.

Essentially the 980 TI is the 1440P card.  Rise of the Tomb Raider will be 50-60FPS if you like to run things Ultra.  If you don't play Triple AAA games maxed out, it's a great card. 

I have a single 980 TI with the Predator X34 and have most games between 60-90FPS with medium-high settings.

Actually I would say the 980 TI is the card for 1080p Ultra.  It's not bad for 1440P however the newer games are already starting to push it to the limit.

I have sli 680's and believe it or not theyve done really good up until this point minus some sli issues i have to get in depth with. But for the majority of the time ive had them i was running a surround setup. Its definitely time for me to upgrade, but def waiting for the 1080 for now. 980ti might not be worth the upgrade... Sli can be a pain but its a beast when it works and is more cost effective.

Right now i agree with spiicy wait for the 1080 or ti version. Though its annoying everyone is trying to push the last of this gen hard right now.

It really all depends on how DX12/drivers handles as on paper this should allow for SLI to be much more efficient.  Seriously crossing my fingers this allows future titles to yield better results when ran in SLI configurations.  If they can properly yield much better results w/less issues I'm all for buying another 980TI in two years vs buying into the new architecture. 

Monitor-wise, not upgrading for a good 6+ years until they finally have Ultrawide Oleds or the sort with 120hz as the norm lol.

VR currently has issues with SLI, so don't jump the gun too early on that second 980Ti or you'll be pissing money up against the wall.

VR is the only way I'll go back to PC gaming...that and a powerful console-sized box. Until the quantum leap from 1080 to 4K gaming really hits its straps (Ultra should be the 4K default on PC, not Medium) and VR tech matures (if it matures...), I'll stick to the shallow end of the pool and keep on console gaming.

Im pretty sure these guys will make quick work of sli problems with vr. Already there is a system that uses one gpu for each lens in vr. Of course devs have to implement it in the end. Also im really contemplating cancelling my vive order seeing as the games are so limited on that platform right now. Id probably just end up playing flight sims again.

I could be wrong but really my point was a 980ti might not be worth upgrading on the gen thats about to drop, historically the progression between each gen hasnt been super crazy. And if nvidia vr sli becomes widely adopted maybe a cheaper 980ti sli setup would be more cost effective. All speculation though but we will see soon for sure.
