Logitech G700s and G900
« on: 09:10 PM - 04/10/16 »
Was wondering if anyone that has a g700s or g900 could share their thoughts on either mouse set up like in game sensitivity, dpi, report rate, etc?  Mainly for fps like bf4 and Star Wars BF. I recently got the xim4 and am using a Logitech k350 keyboard and M510 mouse. The in game sensitivity is at 100 and although the games are playable it just doesn't feel right compared to a PC fps. Am I really missing out on a better mouse experience by not getting a true gaming mouse? Does the dpi and report rate really help? And my set up has to be wireless as this is a couch style set up. Thanks for any input.

Yes! Definitely doing yourself a big disservice by using a low DPI mouse like that M510 (Google search says it's 1000dpi?)

Generally a really high sensitivity is not good and you won't get a good aiming experience from that. Only reason you have to use that high of a sens is because your mouse DPI is so low.

I definitely reccomend upgrading to an actual gaming mouse because they have so much more customizability and extra buttons that you can bind in game commands to. If you were interested in the G900 as a wireless option, I would wholeheartedly reccomend it. I've had mine for almost a week now and it is fantastic with the XIM4. The sensor in the G900 is the Pixart 3366 (same one that is in the G502 and G303, 2 very popular wired mice that a lot of XIMers here are using). G900 has no issues whatsoever running at 12,000 DPI and 1000hz report rate so you will be able to use a much LOWER XIM sensitivity which will give you a much better aiming experience.

Between the two, G700s and G900, I would definitely go for the G900 by far. I never had the G700s, but I did have the predecessor G700 model. I'd say the G700/s models are pretty outdated now and on top of that they use an inferior laser sensor. G700 is also a heavy brick that is not very pleasant to lug around for long gaming sessions. G900 has the newest wireless tech in it and Logitech's goal with it was to basically make the wireless performance just as good as if the mouse was plugged in via wire. G900 is pretty darn expensive and overpriced at the moment because it was just released, but for me it was definitely worth it. Nothing beats wireless freedom and solid wired-like performance.

Thanks for the input gunit. Can you share some examples of your personal sensitivity settings for any fps games? Mainly bf4 and sw battlefront if you play those?

Do you think that the G700s being 8200 dpi and the G900 being 12000 dpi will have an impact or make any difference to the Xim? The G900 is just so darn expensive.

The sensor would have more a difference than the DPI. The sensor that the G900 uses is noticably better than the G500 and G400. I think the G500 uses the same sensor has the G700 so I would say you should notice a difference as well. It is very expensive for a mouse though, maybe wait for a sale?

If money is an issue for you, then I say go for the G700s. I've had mine for a couple years and had no problems with it.

Oh yes, if cost is a factor 50 vs 150 is a no brainer. The G700s should be good enough. I haven't used the G900 but it seems like an improved wireless G502, it basically sets a new bar for wireless mice.

I thoroughly enjoy the g700s + Sony Nav gaming experience. The button layout is nice, especially if you use the Logitech gaming software to assign the DPI buttons to keystrokes. Don't use the wheel tilt/pan feature of the mouse, those buttons have been very unreliable (at least for me on the Xbox one).

I don't own a g900 but I used to use my g700 for a wireless set up.  It works great.  I have switched over to a g502.  I don't like the amount of button on the g900 so I probably would skip it myself.  If they had a g900 with a g700 button layout I would jump the gun.

Does a gaming mouse pad really make a difference? Like a hard surface pad for high dpi mouse versus cloth pad? Or am I safe with a regular mouse pad and high dpi mouse?

Only in the sense that optical mice pretty much work on any surface and laser mice can be really picky. Most laser mice work best on a non rigid hard surface. The G700s uses a laser sensor so if you experience tracking issues with a cloth pad you may want to look into a hard pad next.

I've had a g700s for about 4 years now, still love it.  A big difference between this and the g900, that I've seen only from looking at the g900 online, is the buttons on the left.  The g900 has 2 on left and 2 on the right?  It's also ambidextrous and for some reason those mice have always bothered me.  The g700s has 4 on the left and the overall design is nicely suited to right-handed gamers.

What your mouse should come down to isn't so much the laser/sensor (unless it's just so terrible it throws the whole experience off) but how it feels in your hand.  Hand comfort is priority #1 and thankfully there's enough out there to choose from.  I recommend going to a Best Buy or anywhere they have those mice on display and feel them for yourself.  Also, another tip, Best Buy will price match any major online competitor (newegg/amazon etc..), might as well as take advantage of that to not pay shipping and have it same day/return it if need be.

If you do go with the g700s make sure to replace it with one of the newer eneloop batteries, the old stock ones they ship with suck.

How does one get their hands on these newer batteries?
