Headphone Amp/DAC for Sennheiser HD650
« on: 04:31 AM - 01/25/10 »
I've basically got my first set of Sennheiser HD 650's as I'm into gaming/movies/music.
I now need a suitable amp/DAC for these phones to connect to my iPod/PC.

Any recommendations? Thanx.

wouldn't head-fi.org be a better place to ask this?

I'd probably still be using those horrible Steel Series "gaming headsets" if I hadn't come across that site  :D

Have a look into the "Benchmark DAC1 pre".
Highly recommendable!

The MixAmp changed my life.  Having 5.1 on Laptop, PC, and 360 is awesome :)  Sounds great, very versatile, lots of input options, and portable.

Thank you all for your inputs. Forgot to mention that
I'm looking for top of the line Amp/DAC around $300 or less.

As for ChrisTre...holy @#$%!?!?!  :o  DAC1 PRE Silver=$ 1,595.00

Sorry, but you didn't set any price limit ;)

Yeah, I know it's not quite what they call a bargain. But actually you get what you pay for. Hands down, the "Benchmark" DAC1 or it's revisions are just outstanding and unless there's gonna be a dramatic change in the way how electronic signals are transmitted between devices, or the way people listen to music for instance, you'll never have to buy anything else...ever!
This little thing changed my whole set up and replaced my stereo amplifier completely because it became absolutely superfluous.

A cheaper solution would be the "DacMagic" by "Cambridge Audio" or the "V-DAC" by "Musical Fidelity". No headphone-amps though.
