Adaptive handicap switch
« on: 10:08 PM - 10/23/15 »
I am attempting to connect a handicap adaptive switch to a ps4 using the xim4. The switch is made by gimpgear inc. called the versatility 4, the switch is an alternative to a PS3 controller. Does anyone know if the xim4 can be utilized to run this switch?

Welcome to the community. Does this device actually show up as a PS3 controller?

I can get the controller to work with the Cronus max , however the ps4 does not recognize the switch and after 10 minutes or so shuts the controller down.

I thought that with the great reviews this product has received it would work better than the chronus. Now it appears it will not work at all.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what this device is. The web page isn't coming in correctly for me on my phone. Can you explain what it is and what type of device appears as to a PC?

This is custom made adaptive control box designed to replace a PS3 and Xbox 360 controller. I am not sure if it can be used on a computer, or even if a computer would recognize it.

You might have better luck locating it on the Broadened Horizons website.

It appears that the xim4 was not designed for the type of conversion I am attempting to do. I guess I will focus on attempting to get the Cronusmax to recognize the adaptive switch.

If its meant to replace a PS3 and Xbox 360 controller then it means you can use them directly plugged into those consoles, correct? If so, XIM4 supports cross console adaptation of controllers. So, if you wanted to use it connected to an Xbox One or PS4, you'd set up your XIM4 normally with those native controllers connected to your XIM4 and then plug in the last gen controller into port 1 or 2 of your XIM4. At that point it would show up as a mappable joystick to XIM4.

that is the conclusion I came to after seeing the website. I am not sure what the problem is.

I would really like to get the xim4 to work. The adaptive controller is not listed on the compatibility list. It could be a comparability/ recognition problem.

It would be nice if I could talk to a live tech to try to get this sorted out.

Nothing as in you don't see anything show up on the Manager HUD, or, you don't see anything happen on the console? If its not working in game, I'd expect that (and it means bindings haven't been set up yet). If its not showing in Manager, than its a compat issue.

It is not doing any thing on the console or showing up in manager. Thank you for your help, I guess I will return the cim4 and focus on the chronus. At least I had limited success there.

Which build are you using?

I had to update to a release candidate build before the xim4 would recognize one of my old ps3 controllers.

I don't know what build I am using. I am not that tech savvy. Just trying to get this ps4 working so my son can play the new assassins creed games. $350 for a PlayStation 4, $1500 for the adaptive switch, over $300 in crossover adapter. Two weeks of frustration and he still can't play the games.

I don't believe it is a problem with the products. It is probably just my inability to understand what needs to be done and how to set it up.

The xim4 comes with the official release build that doesn't include all the awesome updates over the past year or so.

If you've never updated firmware on a device before then it could be a bit of a learning experience. You would need to hold the p button while connecting the xim4 to your pc, then download the newest firmware here and then run the xim4flash tool:

Release Candidate builds - http://xim4.com/community/index.php?topic=41267.0

You will also need an updated manager here is the link:

Xm4 Manager - http://xim4.com/community/index.php?topic=41268.0

P.S.  These are the instructions you want to follow step by step:

Instructions:

    1. Hold down the 'P' button on the back of your XIM4
    2. Plug your XIM4 into your PC while continuing to hold the 'P' button
    3. Wait for your XIM4's light to display blue and then release the 'P' button
    4. Download and run the XIM4Flash tool
    5. Select Update or Restore Factory Defaults (requires re-pair of your XIM4 to your devices)
    6. Disconnect your XIM4 from your PC after the tool completes
