I dunno roads, that would be very non standard.  I'm going for something that's familiar but with all the features we've always wanted + natively ambidextrous.  I'm not arguing that something like what you're describing could be really useful.  I'm just saying that most people are gonna look at that and say no thanks, myself included.  Most people just want a button for their thumb and a dpad.  Enough people also want a joystick within thumb range to justify including one.  I'm also considering adding some kind of throttle control.  Trying to come up with placement, design, and justification is problematic though.

Holy @#$% this is awesome!   I don't have much input since I don't know crap about this stuff.  I like the belkin n52TE design but I like how orb weavers wrist pad is adjustable to lengthen etc.   You worked on a few belkins for me in the past tuff you sent me yours and what I enjoyed most about it is the elevated button below the dpad.  Its like my thumb slightly rested on it.  You know I have been wanting this @#$% thing forever so hurry up and get to work I want a Tuffpad!

Think to yourself "is this something an idiot would post?" ... If the answer to either of those questions is "yes" then you probably shouldn't post it

Anybody have any 3d modeling software recommendations?  Right now I'm going through the Tinkercad tutorials and making good progress.

Blender, automax 3ds, maya, mudbox.blender is free, the others are free for 3 years (I think you just make an account). Any 3d modeling software takes a bit to learn/get used to. I use automax 3ds myself.

Looks good tuff, I'll echo Roads when he said "its your baby, just thinking out loud here".

One problem I have with XIM is wire management, it sits awkwardly wherever I put it because wires come from two sides of the box.

On your Narwhal you have the wires coming out towards you, this could make sense for a couch player, but I imagine would be a headache for desk players?

How about having the USB on a detachable connection, where you can unplug the USB straight from the device, maybe have the option of having the cables somehow come from the top or bottom of the device?

Sounds like more work I guess, and although it doesn't matter what I think, I'm really not liking that one part about it. I would have to drill holes in my desk to hide the cables. My 2 year old would pull the Narwhal straight off my desk with such a setup xD.

But non the less, very impressed, can't wait to see the actually piece printed.

Sorry, in the video when I said wires... I was referring to the connection wires between the side module thumb buttons and the USB controller.  You won't see or interact with those.  The single USB cable will come out of the back or something.

Ohhhh i see, derp sorry, in my defense i was sneakily watching this at work, so i didn't pay a lot of attention to what you were saying outside of "wires coming from here" lol.

I've just watched the video and it actually makes perfect sense xD.
Sorry dude, i have a habit of putting my foot in it.

Just whittle the enclosure from wood so you don't have to learn solidworks
That "natural curve" you [roads] are talking about was me taking a wild guess what the game was doing (which was completely wrong of course).

😂😂😭

Thought about doing that and then passing it off to a person to 3D model it.  But I'd rather keep this to myself and learn something new.

Besides... somebody, who owns a 3D printer and shall remain nameless, has presented themselves to me and offered their services for prototype printing.  So, I'll get it as close as I can and have a prototype printed, make adjustments and try again.

Nice work Tuff. Including the wrist rest, do you know roughly what your intended dimensions are?

I'm gonna post another progress video later today.  I'll talk about dimensions then.  This thing is still in major flux.

@mist - It looks like the dimensions are going to be something like:

4.5 inches wide
6 inches long
.75 inches tall
