Hardline: My Advanced Setup
« on: 08:06 PM - 04/14/15 »
Long story short, the wife's out of town so I have a little time to kill, thought I'd share my setup.

I use two different setups for Hardline, a "Professional" and an "Operator". Sorry I'm not an LMG guy! My reasoning for using two separate configs? I really like to specialize my Sniper class, so my setup is quite different then it is for AR's and SMG's. Also, Snipers have a different ADS delay time, which is important!

So let's start with my Fav. Class "Professional". I utilize two Sub-Configs within my Pro class. I use Long Range Sniping. This lowers my sensitivity dramatically allowing me to make micro movements when need be. But more importantly, it allows me to play with faster HIP and ADS settings because I don't have to worry about the "jitters" at long range. Basically it's like using a snipe button on your mouse that lowers DPI, except I'm using a different config to get a better effect by lowering sensitivity. My second Sub-Config is a Vehicle/Turret/Heli config. This config utilizes a special ballistic, boost and a higher sensitivity that allows greater movement for the aforementioned.

I also use a classic "Tracking" Ballistic curve for all my classes. Credit for this curve goes to TuFFrabit, but really it goes back to Threewheels as well and even Toys I believe. XIM4 ST's are GREAT and top notch when it comes to console mouse and KB adapters. However, there are some thing's they currently can't control with a basic ST. Odd look mechanics, Aim assist and ADS delay are the one's that concern me. Luckily, the folks at XIM are a smart bunch and they offered us some tools to work with that can help. The reason for using a Tracking ballistic is to help combat Aim Assist. This works by using acceleration to "push" through aim assist and then holds the acceleration to help us track the target. You may ask, "why not just turn aim assist off?" Well, if your background is PC gaming then that may be a reasonable solution for you. However, IMO, Aim Assist is a greater compliment then a hindrance. Sure, I wish aim assist didn't exist. Imagine how Godly we would feel then and how silly game pad users would look trying to control their aim. Aim Assist is here to stay folks, so use it to your advantage. Learn it, live it, love it!

Here are my Ballistics for "Professional". They are very similar to BF4, that's because the intention of the curve is the same, to combat aim assist and help track the target. The only variable being the degree of Aim Assist the look mechanic utilizes. Hardline, seems to have stronger aim assist then BF4. This appears to be a common trend for the industry unfortunately, it's their way of catering to the noobs. Again, Learn it, Live it, Love it!

HIP: Notice I use a Boost of "50" this is purely preference, but makes my controls feel a little snappier!
Code: [Select]
>>> XIM4 START Paste >>>
X4MB:000E1C2A3846505A646E78828C96A0AAB4BEC8C8C8
<<< XIM4 END   Paste <<<

ADS: No Boost because it adds too much Jitter for snipping. Make sure you set your ADS delay to "208"! ;)
Code: [Select]
>>> XIM4 START Paste >>>
X4MB:000E1C2B3948525C66707A848E98A2ACB6C0C8C8C8
<<< XIM4 END   Paste <<<

Long Range: Make sure you use the ADS translator for this Sub-Config! I use this as a "Hold" config and bind it to my NAV Left Click button (J7). This way I simply push down on the stick when ADSing long range, Then let up on the stick when done ADSing. Notice my Sensitivity is set to 5 where as my ADS was set at 8.
Code: [Select]
>>> XIM4 START Paste >>>
X4MB:000E1C2A3847515B656F79838D97A1ABB5BFC8C8C8
<<< XIM4 END   Paste <<<

Vehicles: Set this Sub-Config to "Toggle", make sure you use a high Boost and a high sensitivity, I use "40" sens and chg. your YX ratio to .85. I used the value given for XB1 on BF4. I set my activation key to "K4" which is actually my Scroll left button on my mouse.
Code: [Select]
>>> XIM4 START Paste >>>
X4MB:000C203754759DC8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8C8
<<< XIM4 END   Paste <<<

Also, make sure your sub-config activation key is bound to your Reload button in order to Enter and Exit vehicles and configs at the same time. This has to be done under secondary buttons. You must also set this up under secondary buttons for your HIP Config. I also bound buttons to the "Right sticks" left and right movements. This way I can push a button, hold it and it's the equivalent of pegging the stick in that direction.

Now I can walk up to a vehicle and hold the Scroll left button to enter a vehicle and activate my Sub-Config simultaneously. It works exactly the same when exiting a vehicle.

OK, GOT IT? Good! Now let's move on to AR's and SMG's.

You can use the same HIP and ADS Ballistics as with Professional, but their are other differences, so please read on.

HIP: Notice the Boost once again.  :)

ADS: Notice the YX ratio, I utilize a higher Y ratio (vertical movement) in order to help me control Recoil. I'm using 1.5, but this is subjective. Lower sens players typically need a greater Y value then High sens players. Just be careful because if you go too high then it will start to effect your aim. You can test this while ADSing. Just ADS and make circles with your aim. As you raise your Y ratio the circle will start to turn Oval shape. That's normal and expected, just don't go crazy with it!

You also need to set your ADS delay to "160". Please note that this value doesn't reflect any Perks you may have unlocked during the game. I haven't played long enough yet to unlock them unfortunately. But if and when I do I will post. My guess is the perk ratio would be around 120, but that's just a guess at this point. The good news is the ADS delay is the same for Operator and Mech classes, atleast with the weapons I've tested so far. (M16, ACWR, AKS-74U, CAR, MP5K, MPX, P90, K10 and UMP-45)

Well, that's my setup! Thanks for reading and I hope it helps someone.

Here's a DPI/Sensitivity Calculating tool you can use if you're running a higher or lower DPI setting then I am and you would like to match my settings. Thanks to Pro for digging this up!

http://xim3-app.herokuapp.com/conv?utf8=%E2%9C%93&commit=DPI+Calculator
Old DPI = My DPI "8,000"
New DPI = Your DPI "?"
Primary = My HIP setting "16"
Secondary = My ADS setting "8"

I've posted a few Vids on the Gameplay page, but here's a new one that talks about vehicle configs and double binding "Spot" to the sniper class. It also may include me driving like an Idiot and getting the crap scared out of me, yet still hitting a clutch head shot (a few times actually) enjoy!

Here's an oldie but goodie video concerning Aim Assist, if you're interested.

Thanks goes out to Tuff, Mist, Threewheels, Zombie Guy and Toys!

Good post. I haven't been using a sniper since bf3.  I'm gonna have to go back to sniping at some point.

Definitely too much tinkering for me, but the setup looks nice.

great post rml really nice and great demonstration you should add type of mouse, dpi, and polling rate just incase someone wants to replicate or use the xim dpi calculator http://xim3-app.herokuapp.com/conv?utf8=%E2%9C%93&commit=DPI+Calculator to use similar settings..anyways i use something similar to this tuff for ads, sub config with standard and 1.3 xy value with maybe 5.00 slower aim and i have it activated with my fire button that way i can ADS fast once i spot the target i can lock in with the sub config and control recoil by firing...anyways great post thanks

Hiya, did I read that correctly you run the g502 but only at 8000dpi? Can I have your thoughts/the benefits of running at that instead of 12000. Sorry if I'm mistaken. Reading this from taptalk. Thanks.

You read correctly, I only use 8,000 because I have another mouse that I like to use sometimes and it maxes out at 8,000. I don't want to change sensitivities to match my mouse Lol ... I'm anal enough about my settings as is! I've tried 12,000 DPI and I personally can't feel the difference between 12,000 dpi and lower sensitivity when compared to 8,000 dpi and higher sensitivity. I would still recommend you utilize your mouse's highest given "Native" dpi. Unless you have some reason not to, as I do. You can use the Dpi calculator that Pro mentioned if you want to try and match my settings. BTW, thanks for that pro, it's a great tool!

Thanks RML. I've always had great luck with your ballistics. Will try these out.
Loadout: kb = Rantopad with Gateron red switches (model RT101-0005); m = g403; PS4 controllers = official; XIM =  XIM4

Hi RML, thanks for the post. I just purchased my XIM4 yesterday and am waiting on it. After trying to play BF Hardline (or any shooter on a console) for the first time yesterday, I immediately started googling PS4 + keyboard and mouse, and found this place. After all the reviews it felt like the perfect solution. I had no clue how some of the players could of been so quick with a gamepad.

I am considering pulling the trigger on the G502 while I'm still waiting on the XIM4. How would you rate it? I currently use a G5 and like it all though, I have another wireless logitech that came in a bundle (don't remember the model) and absolutely hated it...due to responsiveness.

Last question: Do you feel the G502 needs a game pad? I've used a clean black laminate wood desk successfully.

Cheers, and thanks for all the info, I want to try out your setup.

^ Sorry for the delayed response. I highly recommend the G502 but I'm a Nav user and need ALOT of buttons. Honestly though, even if I used a keyboard I think I would still purchase one. It's a little small but it has a great sensor. It's definitely one of the preferred mice used by members right now.

I have no idea how anyone uses a gamepad either and I grew up console gaming haha..

You can train the G502 sensor to your desk surface, so I think it would work out fine for you.

Thanks again RML for all this infos, I'll have some work when I'll be back from Holidays ! ;)

I'll update my Destiny and Hardline CFG with your infos and make alot of profile and subconfig, I learned alot these days.

great post rml really nice and great demonstration you should add type of mouse, dpi, and polling rate just incase someone wants to replicate or use the xim dpi calculator http://xim3-app.herokuapp.com/conv?utf8=%E2%9C%93&commit=DPI+Calculator to use similar settings..anyways i use something similar to this tuff for ads, sub config with standard and 1.3 xy value with maybe 5.00 slower aim and i have it activated with my fire button that way i can ADS fast once i spot the target i can lock in with the sub config and control recoil by firing...anyways great post thanks

I never thought to make a subconfig for when firying, to make the recoil more predictable and the shoot more accuracy, thanks for the idea  ;D
