I never played those games, i wasn't too sure if people liked them for the story as well as the difficulty, OR just the difficulty. I don't mind difficult games, just as long as they're fun to play, not just some cult following uber difficulty challenge / achievement.

I should probably find out more about them eh! xD

Dark souls is beyond difficult but the variety in these games is what draws me to them.  I usually dont end up finishing them due to the fact they tend to take 40+ hours but that also means you get value for money unlike those 5 hour campaigns you hear about

One thing that's turning me off the game is the death animations. They seem PS1 era bad. As if that wasn't bad enough there doesn't seem to be any feeback besides death animations that you killed an enemy. No xp display, no hitmarker type thing, no outburst of cool looking particles or anything. I've seen people kill an enemy and still spam attacks because they weren't sure the enemy was dead. Besides uncertainty with no kill feedback it seems there's no feeling of instant reward for killing an enemy.

The game is not for everyone.  I never played Dark Souls at all and to be honest I was ready to sell the game back to gamestop within the 1st hour of play, I hated it and thought it was stupid.  There's no tutorial so to speak to show you HOW to actually play the game to me that is just dumb and lame.  No instructions just here you go figure it out as you go along. WOW.... 1st hour sucked just death after death and running around in circles.

BUT NOW just wow awesome freakin game so far.  If there was a quick "here's how you combo and kill like this" it would have changed my initial impression.  You want to stun and then rip them apart THAT'S how you play this game.   In the very beginning you get a gun and a weapon from the messengers on the steps don't pass them up I know half my friends didn't get the weapons and passed them on by in the hunters dream.

To kill in this game you want to see the attack animation and then you shoot them they will drop to their knees for a second and you run into them and hit R1 while pressing forward.  Your character rips into their chest and tears them apart covering himself in blood.  You also get ALOT MORE BLOOD ECHOES for killing like this almost like it's what your supposed to do.  Once I figured that out well holy crap that was it.  The game completely changed all together for me, I basically ran around destroying everyone and everything and leveled up my character bought new armor.  Almost killed the first boss in my first try (not easy by any means just played cautiously).   I wish I didn't have stuff to do or I would be playing right now.  LOL

This coming from someone as I said was about to give up on the game.  The ONLY reason I didn't is because my friends convinced me to give it a shot for just a little bit longer.  If I didn't discover the killing method the game would have been back at gamestop TODAY.

A lot of casuals/average consumers are going to be disappointed & get frustrated real quick. Going to buy the game out of hype without understanding what it actually is. The Souls games definitely aren't for everybody.

I enjoy the game very much but I still stand by it being dumb not giving any explanation whatsoever on anything on the start.  Has nothing to do with "casuals" at least show some basics and I mean BASICS this game has nothing.     It's still very much enjoyable and addicting.  I wish I could have just skipped the 1 1/2 hour of not knowing a @#$% thing at all until by accident I figured something out.  That was the point not a rant or it's too hard because it's not and the game is awesome.    It's actually very well put together the flow of the maps as large as they are and just everything in general.  Game is just badass except for someone who just picks it up for the first time ever

For sure, That's pretty much what I meant. But part of the charm is the trial and error and having no fkn idea what to do. Ask any fan of the series.

Kids these days aren't used to games like that. They expect to have their hand held every step of the way. Therefore they will get extremely frustrated.
