Ok so a friend on Twitter posted the following link: http://majornelson.com/2015/01/26/xbox-preview-program-xbox-one-controller-firmware-update/?linkId=11969566

New firmware for the Xbox One controller for those in the Xbox Preview Program (which I am), could this mean there are some changes to how the XIM4 and ST's will work?

Should I update the controller?

Quote
•Quick Connect – previous controller connections to an Xbox One took 4-5 seconds when powering on a controller, now they should occur in ~2 seconds

•Stability improvements
– the firmware also provides a number of fixes that address issues submitted by customers and preview participants

To update your controller firmware:

Connect a controller to your Xbox One with a USB cable.  Keep any headsets connected to the controller.
    Connect to Xbox Live.
    Press the Menu
Go to Settings > Devices & accessories.  Select the controller.
If you have multiple controllers attached, you can select Buzz – which will cause the selected controller to vibrate.
Then select Update to download the new firmware to the controller attached via the USB cable, and the screen will show the Updating controller … progress screen
When you see the Controller updated screen, press ‘B’ to go back to the Devices & accessories main page
Reselect the controller, the Firmware version, should now be: 1.2.2236.0

I wouldn't if you only have one controller.

Yeah I got just the one controller. :(

I've been asking for a lower input lag fix for the XIM for some time, been mocked, been told it won't make a difference but I hope MS has lowered their 8ms delay. 8ms to 4ms please MS and XIM. That would also benefit me on the PS4 too which is 4ms already but gets the 8ms because of the XIM4.

Any chance you could send me a invitation to the preview program? :)

I tried to warn everyone :( Hopefully you have a second controller that you can use until Obsiv and Orbital can take a look at it. I don't know whether either of them are in the preview program.

Ok...well I am greatfull that I am at least a little tech savvy. I was running an old beta version on my Xim 4 and never updated to the latest released update being that when I tried to update the Xim firmware said I had a newer version already installed. Well I went back right now and just restored my Xim 4 with that latest released firmware and all is working good. Glad I thought about doing that. So I can confirm that with the controller update and latest firmware everything works as of now. Didn't have a second controller either.

I see mixed results here. It looks like some are working on the latest with XIM4 and some aren't. Is that correct?

I can say that having my Xim 4 running a beta version that I downloaded several months back did not function with the controller update. Upon restoring my Xim with the current official firmware everything functions properly. Lost all my Smart translators of course but nothing a little time in saving them again won't fix.
