Mouse Turns Off
« on: 08:08 AM - 06/21/14 »
I am using the Logitech G500 and have for a long time with my XIM3. It has started to just turn off while playing. I usually have to unplug the mouse from the XIM3 and then plug it back in. It usually works again. Now it just turn off within 5 minutes and will not work. I just updates the XIM with the latest firmware but still not working????????????

When things like this happen, many times it's the mouse cable that is starting to wear out. Do you happen to have another mouse you can try to help isolate the problem?

The mouse works flawlessly on the PC. I don't have another compatible mouse to connect to the XIM.

So . . . I guess it's the mouse even though it works on a PC just fine?

Can you try a different port on your XIM? We need to rule out a hardware issue.

This has happened to me as well so I brought the g500s I still have my old g500. Would be good to see a fix if it is a hardware issue but im sure its just wear and tear on the cable.

I should of mentioned that I did try this. Ever port same results.

Now the mouse in question has been connected to the my PC since and has had 0 faults.

Try this , tape the mouse cable to your table about few inches away from the USB plug that is connected to your XIM . That way moving the cable will not influence the plug . If that does work , take apart your mouse and see if the cable is soldered properly .

How long do you use it on your pc? Maybe not long enough to hit the issue?

I love logitech mice but the cord wear is their Achilles heel. Usually over time wear will cause a break in the cable where the cable meets the mouse. Then it will work intermittently until it eventually fails. I've went through this with two logitech mice and I expect my g400 to eventually have this issue. If it turns out this is what the problem is, logitech has a good warranty. You can contact them for a repair/replacement. If you're out of warranty and are handy with a soldering iron you may be able to repair this yourself by clipping away a small portion of the cable near the mouse and re soldering it to the pcb. I do not recommend lolpop's suggestion of opening the mouse to check the solder points, it's likely that they will look fine and opening your mouse voids your warranty if it's still active. Only open the mouse if you intend to do what I suggested above when the warranty isn't an option.

I had the exact same issue with my first g500.  It's just worn out, bro.  It lasted me almost 5 years, though.

If left plugged in does the xim3 turn back on after some time?
Have you tried not having one item plugged in the xim and watching to see if it loses power? Ie unplug keyboard only, then unplugging mouse only.

I know these questions are strange but it can matter

Do you have another mouse that you can use on your XIM, just to see if that is the issue?
Are you actually gaming with it on your PC?  You may or may not realize it, but your movements when gaming and mousing within windows apps is quite different.
