Currently run this as audio setup: 

🔪 Game audio through DSS

🔪 Outgoing and incoming chat through controller


The good thing about this setup is that I use a mixer and can control volume levels of game, outgoing chat, incoming chat all seperately with knobs on my mixer. Can also send each of those to my PC separately and whatnot.

Now that I'm going to be XIM master race again controller chat is borked. If I get a USB sound card for solution...

(Here comes the question of this thread)

Can I get game though DSS (optical) and do only chat through the crapdongle sound card?

You will be surprised about the Mic quality those cheap USB Sound Cards produce, They are better then most onboard (Realtek) solutions, Way better then the Astro Mixamp mic quality :)

I'm not as concerned about voice quality as not being able to have chat and game on two separate channels

Do you know if I can do that without controller involved

yes trollqy. iirc you can select in PS4 what goes where in terms of ouputs and inputs.. it's just a matter of going to the options for each thing...

to answer your question, yes I believe so actually

I'm sure I have done this actually

hold down ps button, and select chat audio under output to headphones

done!
