The setup should be much easier I think (if we don't need to use the ps4 USB port as I imagine). Sometimes taking the easy way out isn't the answer.

That's from a demo stand in a retail store. Likely the same as the ones we use but no detachable cable. The plastic piece on bottom is part of the mount that holds the controller to the demo unit

Exactly this ^ and I posted that pic months ago.

There were hard wired demo stand controllers in retail stores.

Display controller. Hard wired but most likely just for power since the battery is not in the controller.
