MCPs should be 10 kOhm. Other versions will work for joysticks too, but triggers will only work with 10 kOhm versions. 10 kOhm version is marked with 103 in name. ( MCP4151-103 )

Without battery you need to have DS4 connected to PS4 with usb cable. I think BT pairing is lost when battery is disconnected and there is no power. I have done version with no battery and it works just fine.

W11cE, yeah so after i posted that i figured out that i could operate without a battery if i plugged both the teensy to the ps4 then the ds4 to the PS4 as well for power. Down side of this is two usb ports used and i have a headset that requires USB for the MIC.... Is there a way to fool it to think a battery is there so i can just plug in the teensy only to the PS4 with no battery? Maybe wire power to the battery port or something?

You only need one port of the PS4. The Teensy you can plug to any USB port.

If you connected 5V from DS4 to teensy and the shield you should not need to connect teensy to PS4 at all unless you have power hungry setup on xim.

DS4 cant be fooled to think that there is battery. The battery is needed to remember BT pairing.

Firstly thanks for putting this tutorial together and thanks to all of those who have contributed to this thread, such a great resource.

I could do with a little confirmation on components before I build this, I think I have everything already at home except for the USB host shield and the MCP4151's. I've got at least one spare 3.1 Teensy to use.

So I'm about to order a few dozen of these:

With the USB shield it looks like there is no UK/Euro/International distributer, so only one place to get that from.

With the 4.7k and 8.2k Carbon Resistors I think mine are rated 0.25w and 5% tolerance, pretty standard I take it these are fine?

Lastly with wire, I've been stripping cat6 cable and using that on projects recently as I've got miles of the stuff, only other wire I have is 30 awg wrapping wire which I think Is too stiff for a project like this, think the cat6 will work or should I stop being cheap and go grab some nice thin single core?

Yep the MCPs and resistors are the right ones. Not sure about the wiring, but i would recommend AWG30 single core wires.

I just finished building my third and have some pointers
1.  Solder everything between the teensy and USB shield first and TEST for player 1.  Xbox 360 controller to USB and power to the teensy (via USB)
2.  Solder everything on the controller (stick side).  Get your mcps mounted.
3.  Pre-tin everything you need to solder.  Apply heat to the brass solder spots first and feed solder (basic soldering practice).
4.  Solder all the 30awg wires to the controller first and then solder them all to the teensy.  Use hot glue to hold down the wires so they aren't flapping around.
5.  Connect the mcp side to the teensy and test for player 1
6.  Finish your project and game

Also, have a vision on how you are going to mount this stuff.

Another question riggidy, the wiper pins from the pots of joysticks.
Did you rip off the original potenciometers? (detailed in red on photo), or just desolder connections? or did you preserve them without any change?

You cant preserve them you either rip them off or cut the middle pin and connect it to the Teensy for the advanced mod. The MCPs have to take over the Pots so they have to go.
