Making XIM for PS3 - A few questions.
« on: 12:47 PM - 03/10/08 »
Hello,
Iam about to make a XIM for my ps3 and I have a question. I have an old official Sony PS1 Dualshock controller which I dont use anymore, and Iam thinking about taking the wire from there, Will this work? Or does it have to be ps2 specific?

Hmmm, see the ps3 section. I believe you still need an ps2 adapter such as icon or some other wierd thing.

Oh I know that Iam still going to get the Icon adapter, iam just wondering for the wire from the controller instead of buying a ps2 controller extention cable.

Yes, the wire from the PS1 controller will work fine. The wires in the official controllers are composed of very thin copper wrapped around a cotton string, similar to wound guitar strings only with a natural fiber as the core instead of metal. They can be used, but they're hard to solder sometimes.

Another question, I have the F330 board. On the tutorial, It says to use the 330 hex file but ObsIV is using the F360 board. Now I notice in the software package there is a 330 hex and a 360 hex. Do I still use the 330 hex file as stated in the tutorial.

Also, my F330 board has only 2 rows of 8 connecters (0 and 1) and 1 row of 5 connects for the Reset Bar, GND, and Vdd and so on. Do I still connect my cable to the 1.x row or do I move to the 0.x row?

Also, does the dial on the daughter card do anything, I think i might have accidently moved it when I was examining the card, does this affect performance? thanks!

If you've got the F330 daughter card, then you'll need to use the 330 hex file. You still connect to the 1.X pins and the ground. The dial is on the 1.3 circuit (I think) which isn't used by the XIM, so moving it won't do anything.

The dial is fun to play with, I like to mount it on a mini go karts for squirrells.
