I can't help you,  but other than the sound issues, have you experienced any display issues? Does it create any kind of input lag or image distortion? I'm really looking into getting one,  since I love my monitor and this thing fully supports hdmi.

Maybe I'll search and necro a thread...

I reset my Xbox and it started recording sound. I have a 27" Samsung LED monitor and I can't visibly notice any input lag when hooked up to the PVR.

dont get the hd pvr2
from all the standalone units out there that are 1080p HD ready, the hauppauge is the worst out of them
get the elgato instead, much better and costs the very same

It looks like the el gato is much less assuming, too. I'm very concerned about input lag, tho. Also, I wonder if the next rounds of consoles are going to both have this hdcp protection on both gaming and movies, rather than just ps3. I won't be happy if I buy this thing and it becomes useless when the 720 comes out.

There are ways around the security.
Ice... 15ml lime cordial... 1 dash angostura bitters... 2 oz 100% agave tequila... top off with sprite or 7 up

I know, just seems like a pain in the @#$%. Any respectable company selling the means in which to do so? (No, I'm not asking it to be mentioned here... its more a rhetorical question) Seems like anyone selling a way to bypass copywriting securities would be sued back to the stone age.

1) all capture devices have input lag, some of them less, others have more
in any case its the very best idea to just put an hdmi splitter infront of it
one end goes to the capture card, the other end to the monitor
that way you have no lag

2) about hdcp
that shouldnt be your issue, there are lots of devices that remove hdcp for you
the better ones even have switches that let you have hdcp on or off
you connect a hdmi to dvi from the xbox to the dvi of the hdcp-stripper
toslink from xbox connected to hdcp-stripper
the stripper then mixes the video and audio to one again and outputs it as hdmi but without hdcp
the reason why this works is that dvi cannot transfer hdcp

here one from ligawo, maybe also available in the us
if not, cablesunlimited also sells an hdcp stripper on amazon.us i think

I just realized that sound would be an issue for me...

My current config is the vga cable to to monitor,  audio outputs straight to cheap headsets... its not the best option, and I have much better headphones, but I need the optical adapter on my older xbox to use my dss/x11s, and would need a way to convey sound through the card. Is there an option to put sound through both hdmi and optical at the same time on the xbox?

@#$%... now my bubble is burst...

Oh, and sorry for hijacking, too, but it seems the op has resolved himself anyway!  :D

Edit: oh a splitter! Duh... good call odin, I didn't realize... I'm a noob @ this! :D Last time I recorded video games was on my old vcr, playing street fighter 2 on snes!

xbox always outputs hdmi sound and optical toslink sound at the same time

on ps3 you can go into the menu options and pick whatever you like to
either only hdmi sound, only toslink sound or both at the same time

so you said recording audio works, however video doesnt right?
but the software is showing the video, is that correct?
as you said you barely see any lag, means there must be a video that you get on the pc

@ JerginsSoft And you split your hdmi so you aren't playing through the device, no noticeable llag that way
