Ballistics Curve Library
« on: 05:01 PM - 07/17/12 »
XIM Edge's Ballistic Curves offer a great deal of flexibility in how aiming behaves. XIM's Smart Translators give you 1:1 precision (known as "linear behavior"). However, some gamers prefer, for example, added acceleration, deceleration, speed limits, or velocity boosts (known as "predicable non-linear behavior"). Ballistic Curves provide this level of control.

This thread is a place for people to post their curves to share with others.

If you'd like to post a curve, please:

  • Use the code tag so it can be easily copied by others, and
  • Include a picture of the curves
  • Report your mouse DPI used when you authored the curves

For more information about Ballistic curves, refer to the XIM Edge User Manual or the Ballistics Curve Basics thread.
Get the most out of your XIM APEX, read the XIM APEX Support FAQ.

Ballistic Curve Basics

*NOTE - for any of the curves below, you should adjust your sensitivity to your play style.  I'm running a 3000dpi mouse, so if you run 5700dpi, you will probably have to lower the sensitivity.  DPI may also affect how strong the action of the curve is, so you may need to experiment.

BOOST

The original concept for boost was to emulate a config with a large deadzone on the XIM2, where slower mouse movements produced quicker look speeds, but while still retaining a mostly linear (1:1) ratio.  It allowed you to skip the lower range of look speed, which produced a "snappy" feel, and would also make it easier to break free of the sticky-aim present in Call of Duty games while you were in ADS

Unfortunately, the current boost offset on the XIM3 caused mouse jitter at higher settings, so it's use is limited.  I believe it was Roads(?) and some others that able to achieve good results using the peripheral bridge by making a mouse curve that ramped up speed quickly, but maintained a 0,0 origin in order to eliminate jitter.

So I came up with the curves below which seem to work very well.   The idea here is to leave your starting point at 0,0 so you don't get jitter.  Then you raise the rest of the curve equally to retain your 1:1 ratio for movement.  Keeping the new curve parallel to the ST line will keep the rest of the movement range linear and 1:1.

*NOTE - you may need to lower your sensitivity for these to work for you.

Here is the curve data you can paste into the XIM Edge.

<<< XIM Edge Ballistics END Paste   <<<

FINE AIMING CONTROL

Maybe you like high sense all around, but need more control for slow mouse movements, like for sniping?  Here is an ADS curve I tried that is slow and precise at low mouse speeds, but is faster at normal and higher speeds.  This curve will let you use a higher sensitivity, but still have slow low-speed precision.

(ADS curve only)

Game:
COD:MW3

Mouse:
G700 5700 dpi

Description:
ADS is a really low curve on the low end and gradually switches back up to 1:1 just over the 1/3 point.
Permits fine aiming but also permits those "oh crap!" moments too when you pick up someone on the peripheral of your aim.
Hip is 1:1 low and then jumps just after a half-throw at the top end. solid for 180s IMO.
Lets me cruise about casually but also lets me snap around if I detect a baddie behind me.
And as you can see, it's pretty low sens as most COD configs go.

Game: Gears of War 3

Mouse: Logitech G9 @ 3200DPI / 1000Hz

Notes:
I made this curve only for Hip, the ADS works fine on default. Anyone who plays gears 3 should learn how to take sweep shots and not twitch shots like COD / PC shooters.

I always felt like Gears 3 Hip needed boost in the beginning to skip the slow low acceleration. For ADS simply raise your sensitivity and it will skip that initial slow movement.

Image of Curve (fairly simple):

Battlefield 3

There are 2 balistics I have made with great feed back through messages.

Rember to adjust your hip and ADS sensitivities to suit you.

Mouse: Logitech 9Gx 5700DPI - Sensitivity is maxed out at 10 on device profile.
Report Rate : 1000
Ingame Sesitivity maxed

This takes out the jitters so you can fine aim with out adding drag to your 1:1 movements. You can snipe with ease.

Recommended for all Mice!

<<< XIM Edge Ballistics END Paste   <<<

The 2nd Balistics is the same however I removed/reduced acceleration. This improves mouse twitching on target with great accuracy. 1:1 feels better.

Recommended for G500, G700, G9X  - Not for G400 - Other mice unknown

Feed back would be great. If you feel something that could be improved or if you noticed something that is not right I will see what I can do as I enjoy tinkering. However, please PM me so we don't make as mess in this sticky threat with messages as it's for Mouse Balistics curve settings only.

Enjoy.

Curves:
ADS = pure 1:1 movement
HIP = higher sensitivity at low mouse speeds / lower sensitivity at high mouse speeds

Who this curve is good for:
Me! And you if you like proper 1:1 hip & ADS aim. This is not for twitch players. This is for players who want proper control for slow, medium, and fast mouse speeds. This is for marksman style players. But it can still easily and efficiently be used for run & gun playstyles.

Rationale:
I gave higher sensitivity for small mouse speeds (lower left raise in curve) because BF3 plays a bit heavy. To compensate for that a slight acceleration was needed. In essence what I've done is provide, IMO, 1:1 movement for hip aim. Before changing this when I tried to check my corners or look at 2nd floor windows, slow mouse speeds were not registering on screen at all. That means I had to move the mouse in a larger arc than I intended, which is not 1:1 movement.

I also decreased sensitivity at higher mouse speeds. At most, I only want or need to spin 180 degrees. I therefore lowered sensitivity for fast mouse speeds to have better control. I can still turn around fast enough to catch that guy chasing me. Having high mouse speeds set to higher aim sensitivities means I overaim, I don't like doing that!

Overall the hip curve gives me tighter control of my player at low and high mouse speeds. Let me know how it works for you.

EDIT: Trying this setup in-game more and more made me want to tweak it slightly. Currently using 25 sensitivity for ADS, not the 30 I had here originally.

. I am loving your hip curve !!!  Every other curve I've tried felt like over aiiming. This feels every natural to me and suits my playing style nearly to a tee. I've had to boost the sensitivity up a bit ( not too sure what's it set on at the moment, being doing it in game ) for the hip and the ADS is running at 25 which feels good. Now when I stop on the hip I'm nearly always where I want to be . . . . Great job.
