G400 Grip?
« on: 07:10 PM - 06/23/12 »
Hi guys,

Well it's come around to that time, my death adder is slowly giving up.
Little by little, i'm have glitching problems with it, and its time to start looking for a new mouse.

I really love my death adder, it's an awesome mouse.
But the 1800Dpi verisions are redundant now, I'm sure if i looked i could find one.

But its better to move onto something else.
Since i'm a low sensitivity player, i like to flick shot a lot.

This means i make some pretty fast mouse movements,
My current death adder has something like 60-120 Inches per second tracking.

Where as the G400 has something like 70-140 IPS..

I can bug out my death adder through flick shots quiet easily if i wish.
So something with a higher IPS is needed.

My only problem is, i bought a G500 when i still had my XIM3.
& found the shape to be awkward to hold. I'm sure i could get used to it but it would take sometime.

Anyway sorry for going on and on, here is my question (bearing in mind i have googled this.)
I know with some mice you can but an attachable grip to widen the mouse to give extra support or grip?

A bit like all the multiple grips that come with the G9X?
Is there anything like this for the G400?

Also would the G400 track well on a Black cloth mouse mat?

As far as I know no you can't adjust the grip like the g9x. The g400 is supposed to be an updated mx518, so if you've held one of those that should give you an idea of how it feels. Yes it will do great on a black cloth pad, it's an optical sensor.

Yea I've held a G500 which is a similar shape although the G400 / 518 Has less of a tilt to the grip,
Tbh i know i wont like the shape of the G400 but i'm willing to put the time in and get used to it for the sake of the fast tracking sensor.

But are there any other mice that track well on black cloth mouse mats that have a very high IPS tracking?

g500 and g400/mx518 shape look similar but arent the same!

i have both right next to me and can compare them
the mx518/g400 is much thinner whereas the g500 is bigger, higher and wider
also the lower part of the g500 is much more extended

yes from watching pictures both do look pretty much the same (shape) but they are not

So you've just made it sound even worse lol...
I hate having my pinky finger trailing on the mouse mat!

I've ordered it anyway, it was only about £25 so i can try it and sell it right away if i cant deal with the shape.

I think i have found the perfect mouse for me, although the mouse it's self looks cheesy..
But the sensor on paper seems to be better than that of the death adder.

And the actual shape of the mouse looks like they kind of shape I've always been looking for since i hate having mu pinky on the mouse matt..

Is this a good sensor?

Will the mouse track at higher speeds than the death adder?

So your saying the G400 is "the" best tracking optical mouse on the market in term of being able to maintain tracking while moving at high speeds?

I wonder if i could ever take the insides of the G400 out and put them in another mouse?
There will obviously be some compatibility problems from the mouse wheel position and sensor placement..

But i'm sure it wouldn't be an impossible task?

Interesting mouse, the cable on the side means you could fix the cable to your arm with a wristband, dunno if that makes sense. Whats 0.09lb, is that pounds? Would be 40 gramms thatís almost impossibly light? Sensor at center, 5 fingers supported by the mouse, 3 onboard memories that almost sound like Logitech internals. Only problem would be get it fully supported by the XIM. A good find this is.

Edit read a bit about the mouse and they say its wobbling because of the ceramic feet.

Actually the 3.5g deathadder is technically superior at tracking at 3500DPI better then the G400 top speed. The only downside is the higher liftoff but that's not really a flaw. The logitech custom lens to lower the LOD makes it perform slightly worse then the DA 3.5 at DPIs over 800. It now also surpasses the old DA 1800.

There was some problems with old 3.5g firmwares that are still doing the rounds among people that arent obsessed with mouse performance. Those issues have been sorted for a long time now. Cursor quality and max IPS is now faster (slightly) on the DA 3.5g.

But its much of a muchness. Shape will be a bigger factor in your overall enjoyment of the mouse.

Does this matter with the XIM even at COD as we dont have top speed anyway?
