I tried using a full joystick.  I really didn’t like it, way too much arm movement for comfort.  CCU or CCU-like devices are much better solutions.

I'm not a fan of the large arm movements either.  Sadly though, the CCU and it's counterparts are geared towards right handers.  The lefties are left out in the cold atm.  The Ideazon Fang may be the closest thing to an ambidextrous gameboard but it lacks an analog stick.

How many mice can you use left handed?  All the gaming mice seem to be made for righties too...

You are correct...Almost all so called 'gaming mice' are designed to be used by righties...I use a Razer Diamondback 3g but would love to have more options.  I may even mod one of the two Diamondbacks that I've got to make the side buttons easier to use.  I seriously do not understand why lefties have to get the shaft...Maybe our left-handed president can do us some justice here and demand some 'change' for the gaming controller industry!  Flame on if you must, it was just a joke...There is a really cool product made by CH Products called the CH MFP that used to be the Ergodex DX-1.  I realized the CH MFP has some more features that the DX-1 did, but they really gouge you with the price of it.  $200 for the basic unit and then another $72 for 25 extra keys...Insane if you ask me.  The DX-1 used to be $149+$49 for another 25 keys and that was shot down by my wife many times.  But the real beauty of it is that you can place the keys wherever you want them to be...no analog stick though...lol...So I guess the only way to get what I want is going to be DIY.

as far as the wife shooting ya down my dad used to have a old saying better to ask for forgiveness than ask permission, but then again he has been divorced three times. Luckily mine is a very understanding woman.

...my solution for what its worth for the left hand is to fix the xbox controller on a small plinth to my desk surface...can then assign the d pad to various functions and keep the analogue stick for movement....because its fixed it is also easy to just let go of it and use the abxy buttons for less vital functions as you dont have to put it down....

techno, how about you buy this thing from argos:

I think your desk will look better with it. but you will need to buy the wireless adapter for the pc to connect it. Im not sure if you can use and dock the XIM2 controller from it, so no need for the wireless controller.

An arcade (non-analog) joystick with a square gate could approach WASD for strafing but I think you're going to be creating unnecessary problems with co-ordination having to move both arms at once so quickly and precisely. WASD only uses the fingers so is perfect for making so many tiny adjustments in a short space of time.

A full sized joystick has too much "throw" meaning how much effort it takes to go from left to right, up to down etc etc. The shorter the stick the shorter the throw. That is why I like the CCU so much, it's short and It doesn't piss me off. I like being happy, and the CCU brings me happy time every time I touch it.

Wow Mutejute...that looks realy smart (beats my wooden block for a plinth  :D)

Trouble is while it was working fine with my PC games I found that with xim 2  using a 360 controller in this fashion didn't work the left hand joystick wasn't detected properly...I'm using a different PC controller now... just a cheap one made by Gameware and that works fine....but I don't know if that would fit on that mounting device....looks like I'm stuck with the block of wood for now.  :D
