Using a PC headset with 360?
« on: 07:04 PM - 02/24/09 »
I've got a PC headset with 2 connectors (3.5mm mic and headphone) and I'm trying to get the microphone working as the mic for XBL.

I've already got the sound working through the headphone speakers using an RCA-3.5mm converter going into my sound card Line-in. PC then outputs headphone sound as normal. I can't seem to get the microphone working the same sort of way.

I'm using a 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male connector to plug into the bottom of the controller. When I go directly from the microphone cord on the headset into the controller, or trying through my soundcard using it as a mic in and speaker out, no dicey.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the info, I already solved the problem, ordered a similar adapter from Steelseries.

And I have no interest in getting a new headset, hard to find one that will rival the sound quality of my Sennheiser's :)

Hi phr00t, is this the one you bought:

http://www.steelseries.com/us/products/accessories/xbox_360_headset_connector/information

I was looking for that kind of adapter before but cannot find one. What I am using now is Astro Mixamp. Its expensive especially now the USD to GBP ratio is roughly the same. But its really worth it if money is not a problem.

Im using AKG K701 headphone.  Just bought Beyerdynamics DT880 and hope to receive them soon. I hear good reviews on this at head-fi.org for gaming.

Also, check this out for headphone for gaming reviews/ratings. Its Kool Bubba Ice's website. a regular head-fier and avsforumer.
