XIM3 DeadZoner Preview
« on: 08:54 PM - 08/23/11 »
Hey guys!

I feel confident enough to release a preview version of XIM3's DeadZoner. This version supports almost every feature that was available in the original DeadZoner made by OBsIV.

This version also includes a new feature called the "Dead Zone Finding Wizard" that will help you find a perfect dead zone in at least one direction. I will be working more on this feature later on, hopefully making standard configs less of an guessing game and more of a science. You should still always use a smart translator when one is available.

Requires build 929 of XIM firmware and SDK.

Instructions:

 - Download the app attached to this post. Extract to a folder.
 - Download the SDK (version 821) from the official thread.
 - Download and install the .NET Framework 4 runtime (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17718)
 - Copy XIMBridge.dll to the same folder XIM3DeadZoner.exe was extracted to.
 - Run the app!

NOTE: Expect bugs. I coded the entire thing in pretty much one sitting while waiting for the transfer cable to be shipped to my house. If you do find any issues, please let me know!

I've used it a few times now, it's stable. The deadzone finding wizard is pretty cool too and gives the exact deadzone value if you follow each prompt correctly.

One thing you may want to add to your notes is a dotnet framework update. My copy of windows 7 needed to update to 3.5, I went for 4.0 instead.

So what does this allow a person to do exactly? I am assuming it accurately finds the deadzone in any given game? This would be good for creating custom configs without ST's I suppose.

Anyways it looks promising and great work! I wish I had programming skills so I could contribute something beneficial to the mighty XIM community :D.

Hi Kodek,

Looking very good :D
I connected my XIM3 through the Belkin USB cable to my computer.
Started Deadzoner
Started your wizard
Looked at my XIM3 screen answering yes for every stick movement on my XIM3 screen and No for none :)
Now in de end my Deadzone is 6999

Now I`m kind of new to the whole Deadzone thing but I always thought that each game could / should have a different deadzone?

When on the Dashboard of the 360 my deadzone is 6999
When in Black Ops my Dashboard deadzone is also 6999

Shouldn`t this be different?

My setup:
Controller connected to the XIM3
Keyboard + Mouse connected to my laptop

lol you're not supposed to run deadzoner on your dashboard. This tool is for making standard configs. Open up a game that doesn't have a smart translator built, make sure you're alive and can look around. Now run deadzoner.

Hey Silent,

In a running game of Blackops with the deadzoner wizard I get the following result:

Using the wizard + right stick: 6999
Using the wizard + left stick: 8850

So I asume the Deadzone of Blackops is 8850

I did another test with Halo 3
using the wizard + right stick: 8680
using the wizard + left stick: 8719

No you're probable missing a prompt or two. Try doing it manually by dragging the dot on the x axis until movement starts. Let go and then us wasd  to dial it in closer where you meet the edge of movement and no movement.
