How would I go about...

Running XIM on a Linux system?

I know very little about Linux, but I'm looking at getting an ASUS Eee PC sublaptop soon, and I definitely want to get XIM working on it. I'm tired of lugging my dad's 7  lbs. monster downstairs every time I want to go play Lone Wolves!

I'm assuming XIM will not work on Linux without deriving Windows functionality by emulating the OS, or in some other fashion?

If this is true, what's the simplest/easiest way to get just enough Windows in my Linux to run XIM? Is there an easier way than installing XP on a USB flash drive and running the full-blown OS?

Thanks in advance, fellows!

you could *try* wine to see if it works, but you could also resort to a virtual machine too :)

I like the look of Wine.

I wonder if it would work for XIM, though, as I know XIM needs to do things most programs don't.

Yeah wine is a touchy thing, it either runs great or not at all. I'd use a virtual machine if all else fails tho.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a virtual machine and how do I go about running it? I assume it's similar to a Macintosh emulating XP, or the Vista emulating 98, etc.?

get vmware for linux and you basically install windows XP under a "virtual machine" that can run inside of your linux box. Just make sure to keep the virtual machine fullscreened tho.

Thanks. Can I install XP to a USB drive from VMware and run it off the drive?

Make sure to check if your virtual machine software supports USB. I know Virtual PC doesn't.

Months old so likely resolved.

I'm closing this post and if anyone still needs some help they can start a new more current post.
