Wireless controller with charge and play kit?

I know you need a wired controller to the XIM3 to use it but rather than regular wired controller can you use a wireless controller with the charge and play kit?

This is without the rechargable batteries in the controller.

I'm pretty sure it won't work, the controller signal is only transmitted over wireless and the play and charge cable is only used for charging.  I know at least that plugging one into a PC with the play and charge cable will not work.
