Question about using Apex and Sony Nav on PC
« on: 09:43 AM - 09/29/22 »
Hello all,

I did a search and I didn't find what I was looking for. I use to game on consoles (stopped gaming for about 3 years now) and now I am gaming on PC. I am no fan of the digital WASD, I want to use my Sony Nav controller. I have tried using the Sony Nav drivers that others have recommend but they just suck.

I am not looking for controller aim assist while gaming on PC, I simply would like to use my Xim Apex as a pass through device that will allow me to use my Sony Nav on my PC along with my G502 or EVGA x20 mouse.

I am currently using a Razer Tartarus V2 and I have a SplitFish PC controller on the way........... I would prefer a Xim method over my current options  ;D ;D ;D

Can I use the Xim Apex for this, if so, how? I also heard that a new device is coming out. Will this new device be able to do what I am asking?

Thank you in advance.

Yeah the Xim Apex will work on PC with a Sony Nav.

The Nav works great, but you will lose native mouse support but get controller aim assist (unless you disable it in game).

This, everyone else will be using aim assist. Not everyone realizes this but PC players are using Ximís on PC games to get aim assist. I let you know in the other forums that REWASD will let you do what you want, but like I said there, that program take a little effort to get right.

You will have to plug in a controller to your XIM for authentication, and Iím not sure that controller will work to authenticate. Someone else may have more knowledge about that.

Also, a new XIM device is getting ready to release, and it will have smart actions. That, and XIM Apexís go for upwards of 200 dollars right now, and even more sometimes. You may want to wait for the new device.

Thank you

I already have an Apex deivice, I've owned pretty much every model.......except the Nexus. I will own the new one once it's released. OB said that the goal is by the end of the year, COD MW2 comes out before the new Xim comes out, that's why I am planning now.

What about ricochet anticheat? Will it detect xim? I also want to use the Sony nav, but I am afraid to get banned with the xim.

Firstly, XIM isn't a cheat device, so there's no reason to ban it. Both XBL and PSN have stated as much. What it is, is an unauthorised third-party device. What that means is Sony &/or Microsoft don't get royalty payments from XIM in exchange for an "Official Licenced Device" sticker on XIM's box.

There's nothing illegal about using a XIM on a PS or Xbox console, they just don't pay licencing fees for the privilege. Therefore, it's "recommended" not to use unauthorised devices on PS or Xbox consoles because Sony & MS can't guarantee that they'll work, whereas "official" licenced devices have that guarantee.

Secondly, XIM only ever appears as the genuine, first-party console controller connected to it. To block the XIM, they'd need to block an Xbox or PlayStation controller. Sony blocked the DualShock 4 in PS5 games, which also blocked XIM and other third-party devices. They did that solely for financial reasons - Sony didn't want to continue to pay hundreds of millions to Immersion in royalties for rumble licencing. It was cheaper to just block their own rumble-based controllers and force everyone to use a DualSense, which has its own haptics engine.

Cronus devices are detectable by Ricochet, but only when connected to Cronus Pro or Zen Studio via the Cronus' PROG port, which is used to transfer Gamepacks and scripts onto Cronus devices. If the app is closed, Cronus devices can't be detected.

It's a crude detection method (they're looking for the USB HID identifiers only when a Cronus app process is running) and they could do it a different way to completely block it at the OS level if they really wanted to. But Ricochet is designed as a deterrent, not to block Cronus devices from being usable on PC. There are legitimate reasons to use a Cronus that don't involve cheating and it's not up to a game developer to make that decision for any other game but their own.

Okey, you mentioned Sony ps and Xbox.. but pc? I want to use my wand on PC. And since it is a third party device is there still no chance to get detected by anticheat.. there would be terrible to have to buy a new pc if components gets banned.

It doesn't matter if it's on PC - XIM will only be seen as the Xbox or PS controller connected to it. That's why they require it to be a genuine, first-party controller.

XIM combines the mouse, keyboard, Nav, Azeron, G13...whatever...from your input devices into a single stream of Xbox or PS controller output. The PC has no idea that the mouse & Nav exists, all it sees is your console controller.

The XIM itself never says "Hey, here I am, look at me!" which is the only way it could be detected by revealing its own USB HID descriptors. That's how a Cronus can be detected and it only does that while its companion app is active, with the Cronus connected via the PROG port to PC. If the Cronus is in any other connection state, the PC has no idea it's there.

XIMs don't do that in any case, so the only way you'll ever get banned for using a XIM is to record and upload yourself using one in a competitive online game that doesn't permit XIM usage in their ToS, AND to admit that you're using a XIM. So the guys who do XIM videos on YouTube are the ones asking for trouble. That's just begging to be banned if the game explicitly prohibits its usage, so don't record and upload XIM gameplay for those games with your IGN on display in the kill feed or scoreboard.

The nutshell answer is don't tell anyone you're using a XIM and you'll never have a problem...simples. They can't prove otherwise beyond any reasonable doubt.

Understand! Thank you so much for your help, then i going to use my xim apex today.. i haven't used it since the ricochet anti cheat came because I was afraid of getting banned. I don't use aim assist on either, i only want to use my ps nav instead of keyboard.

When gaming on PC, let's say COD..........I take it we should use the Xbox Series X game profile?

I am the one that started this thread, I was able to get back into my original Xim account.

Thank you
