General Discussion / Share steam games? What?!
« on: 11:51 AM - 09/11/13 »
Article from Kotaku

http://kotaku.com/soon-youll-be-able-to-share-steam-games-with-your-fami-1294129311

You'll soon be able to borrow digital PC games like you would discs—Valve has just announced a program called Steam Family Sharing. It'll let multiple Steam accounts access a library of games belonging to one authorized computer.

In other words, if I authorize my computer, you can download and borrow my games—along with your own cloud-based achievements and save files. We won't be able to play the same game at the same time, but we'll be able to borrow and lend games like we would with a physical disk.

The feature will enter beta next week.

Here's the press release:

Quote
September 11, 2013 - Steam Family Sharing, a new service feature that allows close friends and family members to share their libraries of Steam games, is coming to Steam, a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC, Mac, and Linux games and software. The feature will become available next week, in limited beta on Steam.

Steam Family Sharing is designed for close friends and family members to play one another's Steam games while each earning their own Steam achievements and storing their own saves and application data to the Steam cloud. It's all enabled by authorizing a shared computer.

"Our customers have expressed a desire to share their digital games among friends and family members, just as current retail games, books, DVDs, and other physical media can be shared," explained Anna Sweet of Valve. "Family Sharing was created in direct response to these user requests."

Once a device is authorized, the lender's library of Steam games becomes available for others on the machine to access, download, and play. Though simultaneous usage of an account's library is not allowed, the lender may always access and play his games at any time. If he decides to start playing when a friend is borrowing one of his games, the friend will be given a few minutes to either purchase the game or quit playing.

General Discussion / (POLL) 2014 ximmer get together
« on: 09:09 AM - 09/03/13 »
Wanting to get an idea of where everyone stands.  You can only choose one.  This way i can get estimates on what everything would cost.

Hey ximmers! I was thinking about setting up a get together with mostly my EWIX mates, but want to include other ximmers as well.  I'm located in the Maryland area and am extending the invitation to anyone nearby.
I plan to set up an airsoft get together.  It will take place in the Maryland area, as I have a friend who owns an airsoft/paintball store and he will have some connections.  It will most likely happen in the June/July timeframe.
If anyone is sincerely interested, please post here.  No troll posts - I want this to be serious.

General Discussion / Respawn's New Game: Titanfall

Article:

An apparent leak of the cover of the next issue of Game Informer confirms one of the bigger pieces of news for this E3. As we'd reported last month, the next game from the people who made Call of Duty popular is an Xbox/Xbox-One console exclusive. This is a big deal.

The game, called Titanfall, is being developed by top ex-Infinity Ward people at the new Respawn Entertainment.

NeoGAF user Cartman86 spotted the new issue on his Android device, grabbed the cover and started sharing info: "Xbox One and PC. With a 360 version being developed by someone else. Game uses cloud a bunch apparently." Apparently the game is slated for a spring 2014 release.

We didn't know about the PC version, but the reliance on the cloud and the fact that a non-Respawn studio is doing the 360 version match with our May report. We'd heard the game will require an online connection.

According to Cartman86's read of the issue, Respawn will use the Xbox One's cloud-computing services to make the game run beyond the hardware's offline capabilities, utilizing the cloud for physics and AI calculations." Last month, Microsoft touted the system's optional cloud computing tech as a tool developers could use to make their games run better. Use of the cloud requires a persistent online connection.

General Discussion / Age of Empires II HD
« on: 05:31 AM - 03/29/13 »
For all of you AoE II fans, steam is re-releasing AoEII and it's expansion in HD with dual monitor support, enhanced rendering engine - but basically the same game.  They are currently offering a pre-purchase discount price at $17.99 (once released it'll be $19.99). There's also a 4-pack option for $60 so if you can get 4 people to pitch in, it'll be $15.99.  As far as i'm aware, the 4-pack option is only available for pre-purchasing, but i could be wrong.
I already have my group of 4, so if anyone else is interested in one of the greatest classic RTS games - please post here so others can see and join in!  (Disclaimer: make sure you trust the person you're sending your money to if you decide to join the 4-pack option - otherwise do the $17.99 option.)

Pre-release availability is April 5th
Regular release is April 9th

XIM 3 Discussions / Mic issues again?
« on: 10:27 AM - 01/01/13 »
Not sure if its just my situation again or not. I'm now running a modmic and noticed that whenever I was in party chat, there was a high pitched noise when I talked - not on my end but the receiving end.  Once entered into game chat, it was fine. Anyone else? I haven't tried without the xim3 yet to see if it was just the mic or not.
