General Discussion / Wireless Logitech G Pro mouse...
« on: 04:13 PM - 05/15/18 »
Rocket Jump Ninja posted a review of the new G305. Basically it's a wireless G Pro -

J2K has removed the 125 and 250Hz limits that were hard-coded into the Titan Two to prevent USB desync issues (purple lights) on Xim4.

Unleashing the Titan's own 1000Hz polling has fixed purple lights on Apex. We can now bump our Apex polling rates to 500 or 1000Hz when paired with a Titan Two. Lovely jubbly.

J2K is a fantastic bloke and has actively supported Xim for years. Let's return the favour and support his device. Titan Two is an excellent product that fills the macro void on Apex, while offering a tonne of other console gaming features to boot. Apex and Titan Two fit hand in glove, I wouldn't game on console without either of them.

Holy sh!tballs, Xim.tech has the fastest shipping in the world! It only took 7 minutes from submitting my order to receiving an Apex  :o

It's the little USB thingamajig with pink LEDs at mid-left of image.

General Discussion / Burnout Paradise Remastered...
« on: 11:45 PM - 02/21/18 »
Here I was thinking EA was dead against remasters and they've just announced Burnout Paradise Remastered.

I loved this game on PS3, played the p!ss and pickhandles out of it and I think it was my first Platinum trophy. This is a no-brainer purchase for me. If you missed this game last generation, consider picking it up in 4K glory on PS4 and XB1.

General Discussion / Elgato Stream Deck...fave new toy
« on: 08:18 AM - 11/09/17 »
It's been a few years since I last updated my game recording setup, so I dropped a few bucks on some new kit - an Elgato HD60 S, Elgato Stream Deck and Elgato Cam Link (so I can hook up my Go Pro as a webcam).

I've used the Elgato HD since its launch back in the PS3 era and it has served me well. So much so that I've never felt the need to look elsewhere, so I've kept the brand loyalty rolling. However, aside from the annoying 5 second or so delay, I've always had a problem with Elgato's terrible implementation of flashback recording in the Game Capture app, which is nothing short of a confusing mess.

Elgato's come to their own rescue here with the Stream Deck. Aside from the obvious support for Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, OBS etc (none of which I find overly interesting), they've snuck in a neat Flashback Recording tool that dovetails into the Game Capture app. Instead of swapping back to the Mac/PC app and wrestling with the obnoxious "drag rewind, then hit Record" and hoping for the best, a button (or buttons) can be assigned to record the last 15, 30, 45 seconds, or 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30 mins.

That may sound tame, but it overcomes the single most frustrating aspect of the Elgato game capture product range, at the touch of one, or many, customisable buttons. Buying a Stream Deck is an expensive solution (why they couldn't just build this into the app is beyond me), but it's made me a happy camper and I'm now far more inclined to record highlights on-the-fly and actually get some use out of the Elgato gear.

There's plenty of other goodies tucked under the hood for productivity and automation freaks :ahem...whistle:, so take a look at it, even if you're not a strimmer.

I posted this over on the Console Tuner forums - https://www.consoletuner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6965&p=51541#p51541

In short, you can unshackle your keyboard from the confines of in-game button bindings and open up new ways to play by plugging it into a Titan Two instead of a Xim. Xim's strength is and always will be mouse translation, so that stays on the Xim.

I've got some PC-like macro bindings happening on Titan Two, e.g 1-button loadout swaps, improved weapon wheel navigation, direct weapon wheel bindings to keys...stuff that's either been impossible to do on console or really cumbersome using a mouse on Xim.

Have a read, post feedback and strongly consider getting a Titan Two to enhance your Xim. It'll never replace a Xim because nothing comes close for mouse translation, but there's no reason you can't unplug the kb and bang that on the T2 instead.

Also, you can still play with Xim and Nav while adding a kb or pad to the T2 for combo or macros bindings  :o

So...I just picked up my PSVR headset from EB Games here in Ozlandia and thought I'd see if anyone else has been stupid enough to do the same.

First impressions - the headset is big, the processing unit is small and there's a bit of cabling to do to hook this sucker up.

The headset feels comfortable, though I'll need to tweak the positioning a bit as the nose flappy things are a tad annoying. More importantly, I'll be tossing the Sony stereo buds straight in the bin because my Fidelio X2 headphones sit VERY comfortably over the top of the VR headset, which was a pretty big concern.

Note that BYO headphones need to be stereo and use a 3.5mm connection, so gaming headsets like Astro A40s etc may not work and you're stuck with the $2 buds. No doubt teh interwebs will confirm which cans do and don't work in the coming days & weeks.

There's a gap between the headset and your face, so there's room to scratch your eyeballs, pick your nose and look down at your controller if needed. I wear glasses these days and they're not crushed into my skull while wearing the headset, which is a bonus.

To me, VR is sh!ts and giggles territory, but I'm a sucker for shiny things and pre-ordered PSVR day one.  I really didn't feel like investing in a new PC gaming rig just for Vive or Rift, so PSVR seemed the safer bet to dip my toe in the VR waters.

From what I understand, all games and media can be transmitted to the PSVR headset because it's essentially a face-mounted screen. If that wasn't possible, I don't think I would have bought it as I don't think VR content will be worthwhile, at least short to mid-term. That'll be particularly true for the OG PS4, a Pro upgrade will more than likely be required for VR games to run at a decent clip.

Anyway...I'll give this thing a bash and post updated impressions once I've got some demos installed. Adios amoebas.

In case you missed it earlier today, Destiny player and Xim4 user Dr Lupo, and fellow streamer Ninja_with_no_L (an occasional Xim user) carried a 5 year old boy to the Lighthouse on a flawless Trials of Osiris run.

It took two attempts - the first failed when a suspicious-looking XB1 account with no Gamerscore stopped them at the final hurdle, much to the frustration of both streamers and the thousands of Twitch viewers tuned in to watch the run.

After some bedtime negotiation with the boy's father, Lupo and Ninja made one final attempt on the last day of Trials for a month. Both were on fire and pulled a flawless run, with the boy popping up every now and then with a kill of his own.

After making it to the Lighthouse, the Doc's chat erupted, pulling in dozens of new subscribers and thousands in donations. Needless to say, the generosity of the Twitch and Destiny communities brought Dr Lupo to tears.

Stories like these need to get out to mainstream media, gamers ain't half bad after-all. Congratulations Mr Lupo, I said the same in your chat today but no doubt it got lost in the flurry of like-minded messages. You're one of the good guys :salute:

Commander / Destiny - Titan Fun Pack (Titan One script)
« on: 06:48 PM - 09/02/16 »
I realise this isn't for Commander, but it seems the most appropriate forum to put this.

I've written a thumping big Destiny script for the Titan One, with my fellow Ximmers in mind.

This one's for Titans, Hunter and Warlock will be posted separately.

Download the script at http://www.consoletuner.com/gpclib/?s=1273

In a nutshell, the Titan Fun Pack includes -

* Weapon Tracking with LED indicators
* Rapid-fire, with separate Primary HIP, Primary ADS, Special HIP and Special ADS modes
* Anti-recoil, with separate Primary, Special and Heavy modes, each with ADS and HIP. Fixed for Xim4!
* No-scope, quick-scope, weapon-swap no-scope, weapon-swap quick-scope
* Auto-melee and auto-Shoulder Charge no-scope or quick-scope
* Auto-sprint
* Titan Skate
* Faster turning while Sprinting
* ADS Sniper mode
* Titan Evade with cooldown rumble
* Auto-revive
* No Land Beyond reload animation cancel, fast fire-rate and cooldown rumble for last magazine
* Rapid-reload animation cancel
* Jumper layout support
* Menu-friendly combos
* Lots of persistent toggles with activation rumble
* Tonnes of configuration options to optimise the script to your preferences

The script features rumble notifications, but they're optional and can be easily disabled for Xim users concerned about power drain. I've been using rumble while building this script and have no problems with my Xim 4.

As has been highlighted by numerous good folk around these parts, the Sony Nav controller trigger button doesn't seem to fire until it's depressed most of the way.

I took a look at the Nav's trigger using Device Monitor in Titan One's GTuner app.

1. When plugged into the Xim, the Nav's trigger doesn't activate until about 80%, then pegs straight to 100%.
2. If the Nav controller is plugged straight into a Titan One, the full analog range is available, from 0 to 100%.

The problem doesn't seem be the Nav itself, but the way the Xim reads the trigger data  :o
Given the number of people who use a Nav, maybe this warrants a little digging around to see if it can be improved.

Hardware Compatibility / Mad Catz Cyborg Strike keyboard
« on: 11:17 PM - 01/05/16 »
Anyone tried one of these suckers out? - http://www.cyborggaming.com/strike7/
Better pics here - http://madcatz.com/products/keyboards/

Modular design looks interesting, though I suspect like the RAT, the STRIKE kb is not Xim-compatible.
Looks a bit like WALL-E to me, but it's nice to see someone attempting something different.

I'm considering purchasing a YAMAHA RX-S600 AV Receiver after reading good things about Silent Cinema for sound whoring. I can pick up a factory refurb for $500 AU on eBay (about $375 US).

I currently have 5 consoles (PS3, PS4, XB1, 360, Wii U) piping via a HDMI switch to a Bravia KDL-32W700B on my desktop, mostly so I can game with my Xims. Audio is fed from the Bravia to Astro A50s via the TOSlink port. I'm happy with the setup from a convenience perspective, but I reckon I can squeeze more out of the audio than Astro offers.

Question - is positioning significantly better using a receiver than the Astro A50s, or is it negligible at best? Any suggestions for a decent set of headphones to take advantage of Silent Cinema? I'm looking at Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Beyerdynamic and AKG, but am not beholden to any brand.

I'll likely buy the RX-S600 regardless as I don't have a receiver for home theatre and plan to buy some speakers down the track (considering Wharfedale 5.1 MovieStar DX-1 or KLIPSCH HD THEATER 600). Equally, I don't want to drop $500 on a glorified HDMI switch.

I'm open to suggestions and alternatives, but combined, the RX-S600 and up to Sennheiser 650s is about the limit of my budget.

I'm thinking about buying the Steelseries Sensei MLG. If Steelseries' checkout freakin' worked, I'd have bought one by now.

Anyone tried the MLG Edition with the Xim 3 or Edge yet?

Any progress on the Sensei button 6 & 7 compatibility issue? I'm a lefty, so they're the buttons I'd be using.
Can they be "swapped" with the left-side button assigments ie 2 <> 6, 1 <> 7?

My Xim Edge arrived a week ago and I've spent a solid 4 or 5 hours playing with the configuration settings on PC over the last couple of days.

The unit has no problem detecting key or mouse buttons on a number of different mice and keyboards when connected to PC. Everything looked to be working perfectly until I tried connecting it to a PS3 - when connected it goes into a power cycle, lights up my mouse and keyboard, then reboots...rinse and repeat.

I've tried the Edge with a Razer Deathadder, Razer Lachesis, Razer Orochi, Logitech G300, Roccat Pyra and Roccat Kova+, as well as a Logitech G19, Logitech G13 and ZBoard Fang. I have 3 PS3's (60GB Fatty, 80GB Fatty, 120GB Slim), 4 DualShocks and 3 Sixaxis original PS3 controllers and tried 5 USB cables...no combination of console + mouse + keyboard + controller + USB port + USB cable + Xim Edge port is working.

At one point after hard-resetting my PS3 controller the Xim Edge managed to crap itself. A hard-reset and re-flash fixed that, but I've now lost all of my configs... :'(

I've upgraded to the latest Xim Edge Firmware and use the latest PS3 Firmware. Rebooting the PS3 makes no difference. Having a mouse, Dualshock and KB plugged in, or not, makes no difference - I get the same sequence of lights. Plug it back into the PC via Xim Manager and everything looks fine and dandy.

The last thing the Edge does is hold red for about 3 seconds, then flashes orange 2 or 3 times before power cycling which seems to indicate a USB port problem or device detection problem. As stated above, I've tried numerous mice, keyboards, cables, controllers and ports...none of them work.

Am I doing something wrong or do I have a dud unit on my hands? ??? I've used any combination of the same PS3s, mice, keyboards and cables with a Xim3 with zero problems. I don't have the GTMax plugged into the Xim Edge, it's the only device connected and rumble is disabled.

The only difference is the wired 360 controller vs DualShock or the Xim Edge failing to detect it. As mentioned, it makes no difference if m+kb+DS is plugged in or not and I have tried 7 original PS3 controllers, all fully charged.

I'm out of ideas here...is there a specific sequence of colours I can use to help troubleshoot the problem? Does the DualShock need to be hard-reset before plugging into the Edge (I tried that)? There's no troubleshooting info in the Xim Edge Manual for PS3 so I'm unsure if I'm missing a step.

I suspect it has a dud USB port, but how can I test it? Configuring via PC doesn't use the USB ports and the mouse and kb do light up for a second or two in any Xim Edge port but the Edge reboots no matter what I do.

I've even tried connecting it to a powered USB hub connected to the PS3. The Xim Edge reboots once, then stays blue, but fails to do anything and doesn't detect any devices.

Little help!?!

[update] As a last desperate attempt, plugging the 360 controller in and using the GTMax is working, but that's besides the point...sigh.

It has something to do with the PS3 controller and I've tried all 7. What's the secret missing step?

[update 2.0] Success! DualShock / Sixaxis is now working AFTER the Xim Edge detected the 360 controller. None of the DS/6-Axis controllers worked previously. Don't know why - it all seemed idiot-proof and I used the exact same procedure for the 360 and PS3 controllers.
