yo Drow is $1000 for all components or just what you listed above?

19
sorry Jdawg been busy lately.

Right did you try changing those ACHI settings to IDE?

Give it a go first mate.  As for an upgrade wait til April 8th ;)

20
sorry guys been busy lately,  Winnie prices are from Ebuyer, Scan and Overclockers.
Used the cheapest price out of those 3 etailers.

Yeah I agree soundcards do make a difference but are not an essential part for gaming,  sure it enhances it but it can also be added at a later date once funds allow, you want the best spec for a grand thengo for core components and upgrade later if you can :)

Hi Mike,

Are you using the BF3 Smart Translator?

22
Ok thats good info,  I think I know whats up now.
You said you flashed your bios is this correct?

If so can you go into bios and look to see what SATA mode its running it'll be something like IDE, AHCI, Compatibility or similar names.

23
Lol i didnt mean to Publix,  and you can build a reasonable gaing rig these days for around £500-600.  Although HDD pricing is really bad at the moment.

as requested http://www.xim3.com/community/index.php?topic=18923.0

Opens your eyes up to what a grand can get you these days :)

26
Ok so we can rule out heat then as those temps are fine.

Silly question but have you done a re-install yet?

Ok so a few people here respect my hardware knowledge and have asked for a thread to be put up and maintained on the best PC for a £1000.  Obviously this is very subjective dependant on the use of the PC.

So based on the fact we all love gaming I will base the spec around that use.

Remember this is current hardware that is out NOW,  in this industry there is always something better just round the corner.

Hey Ultim8,
in your post you said you picked up a 990fx-ud7. So I assume you got a AMD FX cpu with that.  Just wondering what one and how do you like them compared to your core i7's.

I havent got the cpu yet but I have a meeting with the guys at AMD this week so hopefully a 8150, and maybe a couple of 7970's to play with too :)

Personally I wouldnt use the AMD for gaming,  but I do want to see how it performs against my i7 920 @ 4.2Ghz in the server.  My server sits and downloads stuff all day long and unzips it.  Me being a geek want it to unzip faster lol.

I have a few projects that need starting at the moment.

2 x i7 2700k builds
1 x 990FX-UD7 build
1 x Custom NAS box update
1 x New NAS build
1 x Rsync project to mirror above nas boxes
1 x Building myself a router.

oh also anyone with an apple iphone or ipad check out air video,  I run it on my server and can watch any movie on my server from anywhere i can get internet.  Doesn't matter what file format as it transcode on the fly :)

I'll do a thread on what i consider to be a good PC for £1000

Right its running an i7 920 according to the spec i find online.

Right get Realtemp here is a link:

http://majorgeeks.com/Real_Temp_d6098.html

Also get prime 95 here is link:  ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/p64v266.zip

run realtemp,  then run prime95 all default settings should be fine.  look at real temp and watch as temps rise,  keep watching as i have a funny feeling your system will hang.

Lets rule out temps first as its an easy fix.

lol I say that then I realise I impulse bought a 2700K today lol.  The worst thing is I now have 2 of them sat here with 2 x Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD's,  8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866 kit.

Also brought home a 990FX-UD7, P55-UD6, E350N-USB3, 600GB Velocoraptor, 8GB LP Corsair Vengeance, USB DVD-RW......

I have an addiction.
