This topic seems to be specific to a device other than XIM4, so it has been moved to General Discussion to get wider attention from other possible owners.

XIM 4 Discussions / MOVED: Xim4 not powering down
« on: 04:19 AM - 12/29/14 »

Hey guys,

The new Commander board is here and we can be a little more organized and a little less glommed together now.

For now, I've seeded it with the original XIMCommander topic, broken up into each of the releases and the original thread-o'-musings-and-suggestions.  This'll be formalized a little better in the future, but it's a start at least.

Regarding bug reports: Please only report bugs if you have confirmed they are still present in the current version of the app, and then please post your bug report in the current version's thread.  If I feel there is a more global issue at play, I'll move it to its own thread, but please leave that to me.

If a bug persists longer than you would have expected, given my original response(s) to it, please feel free to re-post it in a newer version's thread.  I don't want things to slip through the cracks.

IMPORTANT: This is effectively pre-release, unsupported software.  Please do not post your issues in the Support forum.  Not yet.  Please keep them in here until we make XC more of an officially-released part of the XIM family.

Regarding suggestions/requests: Feel free either to post to the original thoughts-and-ideas thread, or to post a new thread, depending on how you think it'll work better (esp. if it will/won't relate to existing posts in the original thread).  Basically, use you own discretion here.  Just try to keep clutter down.  I may choose to merge new threads into the original, or split new additions to the original into their own threads.

Regarding asking for help: This is a test phase and you, by virtue of choosing to be a tester, are accepting a level of responsibility and self-reliance that you might not normally expect to have with commercial software.  This software is incomplete, only partially tested, the documentation is sparse, and the resources for answering questions are limited to me and your fellow testers.

You are expected to read the documentation through, to note the new features and changes in each new version's changelog, and to stay current with discussions here on the forum.

Obviously, if you are diligent about informing yourself and following instructions and so on, and I have still somehow left you with a puzzled or frustrated look on your face, then please *do* ask questions so we can get you up and running.  I don't claim to write the best documentation, or to think of all possibilities.  With some back-and-forth, we can take care of these deficiencies.  :)

On the other hand, if you find yourself about to post, "I downloaded the file, what do I do now?" then you may not be cut out for this phase of testing.  No offense intended, it's just that some people are more accustomed to both the requirements and the numerous downsides of alpha testing.  Please try to be realistic--some of you may be better-suited to a later, broader, more polished phase of testing, e.g. beta.

Anyway, welcome to the board, everyone.  Whether you choose to test or not, your input is always welcome here.  No single engineer ever knows his entire target audience's needs, so we're counting on you to help us help you with the things we put in XC.  Thanks for your contributions, be they past, present, or future.  :)

This topic has been moved to XIM 4 XIM 4 Discussions Commander.

It will be further broken down into smaller, more specific topics, so I suggest checking out the board as a whole, not just the linked topic.

Commander / XIMCommander 20141219 (LATEST)
« on: 12:14 AM - 12/20/14 »
Quick update for anyone using a joystick and finding they spin in place.  This is just the 1218 version again, really, but with the second analog stick on joysticks disabled.  Everyone should grab this version except people who have a joystick (note: not controller/gamepad/nav, just joysticks) with a second analog stick that they are using.

As always, let's do this before the link:

GIGANTIC CAVEAT

This is not yet production-quality software.  It IS possible for it to leave your system in a mode where inputs are blocked to your desktop/apps, but the XC app is dead and unable to turn the mode off.  This is resolved after a reboot, mind you.  There are two safeguards against this, but still, they might fail.

Just beware that editing sensitive documents should be mutually exclusive with using XIM Commander.  Okay?

ALSO

Please make sure you read through this thread and the documentation in the package.  Okay?

Support / *** HOLIDAY SUPPORT SCHEDULE ***
« on: 11:03 AM - 12/19/14 »
Update 2014-12-25:

I'm back from my holiday and support is now back to full service.  Thanks for your patience while our staffing was reduced, and also thanks to OBsIV and abc123 for filling in.  :)

Original post:

I will taking a brief holiday from my Support duties, from Dec. 21st until late in the day on Dec. 25th.  OBsIV will still be available for answering Support requests, but he obviously has other responsibilities as the lead engineer and CEO of the company, not to mention personal obligations during this season, so please allow a little more time for responses.

I will be back on duty late in the day on the 25th.  I'll spend time with my family first, obviously, but I also want to make sure that anyone who is stymied by their new present has some help that day.  :)

Full-service support will resume on Dec. 26th.

Happy Generic Midwinter Holidays, everyone!  ;)

Commander / XIMCommander 20141218 (obsolete)
« on: 09:35 PM - 12/18/14 »
Okay, only off by a few hours this time.  Maybe my estimates are improving.  Nah.  Not likely.

This is the changelog:

Quote
20141218

- Added INI [Filter] section with Timeout=30 (0=no timeout) and Enable=1 variables by default
- Fixed G13 stick.y range error.
- Fix cursor clip in different code location for consistently correct results
- Debounced the cycle button to keep it from binding.

Regarding the first line in the changelog, you can either add those lines to the ini and muck with them, or you can delete your ini file and let the app create a fresh one with them already filled in, or you can just leave them off if you don't need to change them.

As always, let's do this:

Commander / XIMCommander 20141216 (obsolete)
« on: 10:57 PM - 12/16/14 »
Okay, I think I have a version worth giving out.  A day or two late, but whatever.  That's better than my usual week late.  :)

I'm going to play Destiny for an hour or so with it to be sure there's nothing amiss, but I'll hand it off to OBsIV if it looks good.

This is the changelog.  If you see this in the next hour or so and you see something MISSING that you desperately needed and expected me to give you in this build, this is your chance to speak up and remind me.  I've been a bit harried with that rootkit and the cleanup the last couple of days and I don't claim to have the best memory.  :P

Quote
20141216

- Added a log file in user profile folder.
- Fixed accent grave a.k.a. backtick being reported as tilde incorrectly.
- Fixed G13 joystick not showing up.
- Some flightsticks might be at least partially mappable now.
- Fixed unintentionally-small dead zone on joystick -> digital conversion.
- Always poll at 1000Hz even if hardware isn't updating that fast.
- Add F16-F24.  Mayyybe.  Someone needs to test it for me.  DirectInput doesn't officially support these.
- Don't let it run twice.
- Add ini file with cycle hotkey in user profile folder, created on first run.
- Fix clip better when not confining cursor.

Edit: Note: Have not repro'ed the video capture issue yet.  No fix in this build.  Any leads on repro welcome, esp. if they don't require certain hardware.

Edit 2: Re: Aux1-3 buttons: These should work already.  I will need to know if there are more Aux buttons on some mice.  DirectInput only maps 8 of them, including right, left, middle, back, forward, and aux1-3.

Okay, guys, the one I played with is now available here.  But again, let's do this:

This topic has been moved to General Discussion, as it is more of a general request for help with audio configuration and the audience there is much bigger.

Commander / XIMCommander 20141209 (obsolete)
« on: 03:25 PM - 12/09/14 »
Okay, guys, we have a download link for you.  :)

But, before that, a

GIGANTIC CAVEAT

This may not yet do what some of you need done.  This is not, by any means, or even the slightest hint of a stretch of anyone's most elastic imagination, the final version.  This is not really even the first version.  This is what I call an early preview of a pre-alpha prototype.  The file says "BETA" but that's an over-statement.

It may not do what you need.  If so, give feedback, we'll make changes.

It may not work at all.  I don't have an extensive test lab.  I have a couple of computers.  You are my test lab.  Hello, testers!

It may not work with your peripherals.  BUT THAT'S THE POINT, you say.  Well, I have a limited number of devices here, so I don't know what all might not work.  I can make them work, though, much easier than OBsIV and Orbital can add devices to XIM4.  I just need to know what type of device isn't yet handled.

It may, in fact, crash.  DO NOT USE THIS WHILE YOU HAVE CRITICAL DOCUMENTS OR WHATEVER OPEN ON YOUR SYSTEM.  IT IS AN INPUT FILTER THAT MUCKS WITH VERY LOW-LEVEL OS STUFF AND SOME BAD MOJO COULD LOCK YOU OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM UNTIL YOU REBOOT IT.  Use caution!

As for the rest, I think I'll have you guys read the ReadMe.txt inside, since it's one of the things that could use testing and feedback.  If it's unclear or needs more info, post feedback about it, please.

All that said, here's the link: http://cloud.xim4.com/Beta/XIM4Commander-20141209-BETA.zip

Have at it.  :)

How to post a good bug report:

Tell me your OS and 32/64 bit architecture.
Tell me what you were doing, and trying to do, when it happened.
Tell me what you expected to happen.
Tell me what actually happened.  If this involves error messages, please transcribe them verbatim.

In case you didn't know, the preview version of VS2015 is available for playing with.  I dunno about the rest of you, but I enjoy tinkering with the up-and-coming features.  Well, some of them were the C++11 features that should have been there already, but you get the idea.
