Ok, long story short, I was in on the first shipment of DIY XIM2 RevB chips.  I built it, monkeyed around for a bit, then just kinda stopped.  It turned out I got really good at COD4 without it, so I just got used to controllers.

Now I'm back, and sick of people with aimbots and wallhacks kicking my @#$% in MW2. Don't get me wrong, I'm still pretty good, but not as good as I was before infection lobbys started making every kid with a paypal acct into a god.

Anyone wanna point me toward the best MW2 config?

Also, I watched the vids and Arcticpenguin99's just looks insanely impossible: one-shot no scope kills from the other side of the map, blind knife toss kills, etc.  In fact, at about 1:30 there's a scoped kill that you can see the round hit the wall about a foot behind the guy and he still dies...  Someone tell me, is that all XIM? Cuz it looks like aimbot @#$% to me.  If it's all Xim, I wanna get me some of that koolaid, if not I may play around a bit and then sell my XIM2.

All comments, questions, and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Card table you say, huh? I guess I take my grandfather's old workbench for granted sometimes.
so far I've just puttered around with the default config in single player COD4, and I actually think it'll take some getting used to.  I've only had my 360 since February, but I've apparently gotten more used to the controller for FPS than I first thought.  Surely more than a decade of PC gaming will come back to me quickly, but I'm just experimenting now anyway, so I need to find or make a config that I like and also tweak all the sensitivity settings.

I'd try removing the 5V and GND wires from the back of the controller board and using the new locations Derek posted in the install guide update thread found here.

I have D4, D5, REF, power, and USB left to go on mine.  I can only hope mine passes 5000 iterations because I know some of my solder joints are not perfect.  The funny thing is I find it harder to solder to the controller than the XIM board.

It was the same for me, I flew through soldering to the XIM, but since I was cutting wires to fit as I went, I had to hold things at odd angles to avoid melting the trigger assembly or other wires.  Thankfully I have a nice old set of "helping hands" with alligator clips that held the boards in place for me. I can just imaging trying to do all that fine detail work with boards moving around too.

Ahh, ok. It does sound cool, but my setup doesn't call for it since the 360 is next to the PC anyway, no chance of damaging the cable that way. As for using it normally, that's what my wireless controllers are for :)

Switch and USB port?  I don't think I'll need them.  My 360 is already integrated with my PC for surround, and sharing the LCD for poor-man's HD.  I've got no need to connect anything else to the 360 that's not already there.  OR, am I missing something really cool????

After having the thing for what feels like forever, I finally managed to get it assembled!
I took my time, threw in a couple drink breaks, etc, and it only took about 2 hours (I'm a perfectionist though, trimmed each wire perfectly, test fit a few times, etc.) I just finished the stress test, 5000 iterations and no errors. Just felt like celebrating.

The problem is that it's now time for me to hit the sack and I won't get to play with it till tomorrow after work :(  It's gonna be a loooooong 8 hours, that's for sure.

I'm dying because I haven't found the time to build mine yet, but I'm planning to use the standard silver-bearing solder that can be had at any Radio Shack.

Well, I'm order #100, and I got my shipping notice too. Derek probably shipped all the DIYs at the same time, it doesn't make much sense to ship them one at a time.

Any news on whether or not the Fab successfully put together the boards… do they work?

Previous page has Derek's pics of the container o' joy, so I'd say the fab put them together. The programming is in Derek's hands now.

Yeah, I guess if I weren't so lazy I'd have done my own research.  And this shortly after I made a snarky comment in another thread about someone else not using the search button.

I think I need to renew my noob card for that. Gotta make sure to get the hypocrite endorsement stamp too.

General Discussion / XIM2 DIY instructions available?
« on: 03:34 PM - 07/31/08 »
Just wondering if you guys would release the DIY kit instructions to us? I returned some junk to walmart with no receipt the other day and exchanged it for a 005 controller. I'd like to get the controller PCB's contacts prepped and maybe even solder in the 30awg leads so it's all ready when the preorder boards arrive.
