XIM 3 Discussions / is this real, or just trolls hating?

I've read the sticky about Microsoft's stance on the XIM3, but I told my friend I would ask for him any way.

He was playing the newest modern warfare earlier today and received a message from another gamer who said he was going to report him for using a mod while in the game. The message went on to say that this particular person was paid by Microsoft to watch for cheaters and report them. I told my friend that there was no way for anyone to tell about the XIM unless he was bragging about it, and he swears he wasn't and also that he wasn't even really doing that well in the game. Anyway, I told him that I wouldn't worry about it and that the guy was probably just butt-hurt from getting shot up and was trolling. Anyone else have anything like this happen?

My XIM is less than 100 miles from my house and has been since Saturday afternoon, but it won't be delivered until Wednesday. Now I'm not complaining about a company giving their employees time off for the holidays, but it sucks that I paid for expedited shipping and my package has been sitting on a truck in Dallas for the last two days and will continue to sit there until sometime tomorrow morning.

Anyway, I'm not angry, just sucks since I was sure that I would be XIM'ing it up today after work....

I know what you mean. OBsIV and I spoke at length about creating an adapter that would work to convert XIM3 to work with the PS3. I had everything picked out but drug my feet on ordering the development board that I was going to build the adapter on. Turns out it was a good idea.... the toolchain for the platform I was going to use is horrendous right now, which is a shame. It's the only readily available board that can do USB host and slave at the same time.

I've been gone from this project for too long. I think I'll start working on it again tonight or tomorrow..... just got to find where I saved my source code

No problem. I'm still working on the PS3 Home button issue. I have all the info I need, I just need to sit down and make it work.

I've had that problem before, and it seems to happen sometimes regardless of the adapter that I'm using. Luckily I haven't had that issue in a while.

I think that's just a matter of time as the only option is CBA.

I've got plans to complete one, but the prototyping board I want isn't out yet. They should start shipping by the beginning of January. By then I'll have some Christmas money to spend and I'll be able to continue with this project.

I intend to release the source, and I've also emailed that guy several times. His stuff emulates the bluetooth connection and is wireless. I've use it some, and it does work well.

There's nothing special about the VID/PID of the Toolstick with regards to XIM, other than that's most likely the way that the XIM software finds, and connects to the hardware. The VID is that of Silicon Labs and the PID is just an arbitrary number that Silicon Labs assigned to the Toolstick. What is special about the Toolstick is that it uses USB to "hide" the UART channel that is used to send the data back and forth between the XIM and the PC. Not only would a homebrew adaptation of XIM based on other hardware have to speak the XIM language, it would also have to speak the Toolstick language.

I've been trying to figure out the PS3 button, but there's something that I'm missing and I don't have the necessary hardware to easily figure out what that is. I haven't given up on this, though. I'll get a fixed binary uploaded later tonight sometime.

@Gaza: The minimus will work, but I'll have to recompile for the AT90USB162. I'll post a link for that at the same time that I post up the binary for the Teensy with the fixed button mappings. I don't have a way to test it, so there's always a chance that it won't work right.

Have the people who have successfully got this up and running already tried to mess with your mouse's polling rate at all?  It seems that everyone is reporting 125 updates per second across the board (the default mouse update rate established by Windows).  I'm not suggesting that 125 updates per second is insufficient by any means...I'm just curious to see how high the XIM update rate can be pushed. 

My Teensy board will be arriving Monday.  I'll definitely be reporting my results as soon as possible. 

I believe that the 125 updates per second is something that's locked in my the LUFA USB library. The original hardware that I was using was running in excess of 180 updates per second, but the Teensy provides an easier solution than the original hardware did. 125 updates per second is where it's at!

You don't need the PS2 extension cable if you're going to use the Teensy. Just get some wire (and old IDE cable works great) and solder directly from the XIM daughter card to the Teensy.
